Newborn
Never actually bought any. He was 10 lb at birth. We used about a pack in the 4 nights we were in the hospital, and the 32 sample diapers I had collected from the OBs office. We then went straight to Size 1.

For the average person, I would purchase no more than 2 packs.

Size 1
Have: 14
Goal: 12 (what I actually used for the Pinenut) DONE

Size 2:
Have: 18
Goal: 18 (22 was too many) DONE

Size 3:
Had: 35
Used: 34
Have: 35.5
Goal: 35 DONE

Size 4:
Had: 28
Have: I have used all of the size 4s from the original stockpile. Opened one mega pack from the new pile!
New baby pile: 20ish??
Goal: 30

Size 5:
Have: 8
Goal: Haven't decided-- I am just thinking about switching to 5s at almost 21 months. He's technically OK with the 4s, but the Walgreen's ones run a little small and I think he'd be better in their 5s.

3T/4T:
Have: 4
Goal: Haven't decided- I don't honestly know if I plan to potty train with PullUps -- maybe just training underwear.

4T/5T:
Have: 2
Goal: Haven't decided

One tip someone shared with me for leaky little boys' diapers. Make sure when you strap 'em into it, his "what-not" is pointing down, not up. :) It really has made a difference for my little ones!

Most babies will be in size 3's a pretty long time, as well as size 4's. I would say every baby goes through at least one box of size 1's and one box of size 2's, even if they are big and growing fast. My daughter stayed in the newborn size almost 2 months then flew through both size 1's and 2's in under 2 months. It's just different with every baby!

Thank goodness i found this thread!

my sister is due at the end of january, she is single, low income, etc. , so i am trying to get her a nice stockpile going and also for my next lo, which we will TTC probably in Jan/feb 09. I know i won't hit the est. goal for my sister, but i am throwing her shower and will try to encourage people to get her diapers/wipes.

here is my breakdown:

For DN, it's a girl!

newborn: 1/1
size 1: 2/10
size 2: 2/20
size 3: 2/20
size 4: 2/24

wipes: 450/4000, aproximate

next lo stockpile: I will be cding probably 3/4 of the time, so my sposie stock will be much less.

size 1: 2 of 3
size 2: 3 of 6
size 3: 2 of 6
size 4: 3 of 6

wipes: 450 out of 1000

ds has a current pullup stockpile of 3 1/2 packs about a 3-4 month supply, (he only wears when we are going out or at bedtime) also a 4 month supply= 15 packs of cleanteam wipes.

Starting a stockpile of diapers before my son was born was one of the best ideas I put into practice! I was lucky enough that he wasn't allergic or sensitive to any of the brands we bought ahead of time. If I have another child, I'd like to try cloth, but if he/she would go with me to work (I'm a preschool teacher), we'd have to use disposables there. So I'd definitely go the diaper stockpile route again!

At the shower I had for my first child my step-mom came up with a great idea! She had everyone stockpile their baby product coupons and buy gift cards (the visa or Am Ex ones you can use anywhere) instead of gifts.

My parents are divorced so I had also had a shower thrown by my mom and her family. They all bought me packs of newborn to size 1 diapers. Well I ended up having to give away many packs of NB diapers from the get go.

My son was almost 11lbs and he went up to 15lbs in three weeks. So needless to say he was out of the 1's in what seemed like a day! I was so thankful for the gift cards and coupons. I would just buy what I needed when I needed it and use the coupons to get some off. This also helped because we were in a VERY small place with no room to store a stockpile.

Size 1
Have: 14
Goal: 12 (what I actually used for the Pinenut) DONE

Size 2:
Have: 18
Goal: 18 (22 was too many) DONE

Size 4:
Had: 28; used whole stockpile plus 1 mega pack from new baby pile, so about 30ish packs used
Have: 25.5
Goal: 35

I am going to concentrate on brands other than Walgreen's for the remainder of the 4s, because WAG tend to run small.

Size 5:
Have: 7 (have bought a total of 19, but we're using them now)
Goal: Not sure. I have nothing but Walgreen's 5s, and since those run a bit small, I think we made the switch sooner than we might have otherwise.

Size 6:
Have: 9
Goal: Not sure

3T/4T Training Pants:
Have: 4
Goal: Haven't decided- I don't honestly know if I plan to potty train with PullUps -- maybe just training underwear.

4T/5T Training Pants:
Have: 2
Goal: Haven't decided

wow there are some big babies on here my son is 3 and he is still wearing size 4 we hope to potty train soon.
Also on the diaper question my sister works for a local hospital and she get great deals on newborn to size 2 diapers. I don't know if it is a discout for employees or if it is for everyone. It might not hurt to ask in the pharmacy of your local hospital.

You may even want to talk to the store manager and see if they'll special order you a quantity in the sizes you want and exchange them as soon as possible.

Anyway, in my experience the size 3 & 4 are the sizes used the most. I never did pull-ups with my older kid, and don't really plan to do them with especially if you are planning to exchange them later for different sizes. my youngest either... but that's a personal preferance kind of thing here.

Any diapers left over can be donated or used to make giftbags for new mom's. :)
Reading this post as I'm in the process of changing unused size 1's for 2's. This is my 5th child, and this little guy has gained weight like no tomorrow. Was 5'7 at 37 weeks, and doubled his weight in two months (breast fed I may add, so I guess go mommy!!) Now, have about 18 2's.
Am already debating on exchanging some of these for three's, because of his rapid weight gain. But may just wait a bit to see what pattern he'll fall into. My other four were long and skinny, so he's bucking the trend. Go figure. Just leaving this post to maybe help, but will probably confuse more new moms. However, to not sweat the small stuff, ALL my stores will exchange to a larger size with absolutely NO hassle. So I guess my advice is to buy cheap and exchange if needed. Hope this helps.

Default Diaper Question for the Newbie

Hi

I'm attempting to start stockpiling diapers. Our first is due in a few months. But I'm having a hard time getting started. I've read the thread on diapers and got good information there, but I'm wondering which places have better deals (in general). For example, is CVS or Wags usually better than grocery stores? Or Target or W-M better? It seems that since the diaper packs come in different sizes, there's no way to calculate the price per diaper w/out actually going to each store (I can't ever find an exact count on the ad). And I can't go to every store looking! I read that it's a good deal if it's 10 cents or less per diaper. Is that right? Where would you recommend starting?

Any help to get me started would be appreciated! Thanks!
