Default Re: Advice Needed. How many diapers and what size should I buy?

I love this deal :) I posted on your Target thread, I'm glad your getting diapers too! My son is a little peanut (9 months and 16 pounds) and he just now is in 3's. So, I went through a lot of packages of size2.

I really, really like the red bag of diapers (premium). I have had my son in them for a few days now, and they are actually holding up awesome. I tried the comfort stretch in the white bag, and I didn't care for them at all because of the tabs.

You'll probably have to try a few brands like others suggested. It's different for everyone. Even if price wasn't an issue, the Wags premium diapers would be top on my list (after Huggies).

I guess the way I figure it, if I'm left with extras in the end, hopefully we will have another baby to use them on :)

Good Luck!
Jennifer

Good thread....I'm doing the same thing for mine that's due in January.

I do have a few more of the newborn & size 1's than you, though. I think 4 newborn and 5-6 size 1s. However, DD was only 6-14 and DS was 6-5, so I know my babies come small! They actually had DS in premies in the hospital because he was leaking out of the newborns!

The problem is that you never know....I think for you what you have in the smaller sizes is good. Like the others said, I'd buy a good bit more of 2s, 3s, and 4s. My DS is almost 3 and has been in 4s for a looooong time!

Given the great deal and that deals like this don't come around often, I would say be generous in your estimates. If you have extras they make great baby gifts or donations.

OTOH, if you end up buying other overpriced stuff that you wouldn't get if you didn't have all those rr, you may be spending more on the diapers than you think.

When my baby was a newborn, we would go through a jumbo pack every 5 days, but that's because I did so many coupon deals that I didn't mind changing her as often. However, I still use at least one pack per week for her.

Seriously, I would stock up on size 3 and 4's.

I've been working hard to find size 2, 3 and 4. It's been tough since most stores are nearly out of these sizes.

Here is what I have now:
Newborn: 5
Size 1: 11
Size 2: 14
Size 3: 13
Size 4: 28
Size 5: 8
Size 6: 10
2T/3T Pullups: 9
3T/4T Pullups: 17
4T/5T Pullups: 4

I know that I have way too many Pullups and I need to get more of size 3. Overall, with 119 packages I think I'm doing really good! I'll give away what I can't use and I may try to exchange the larger sizes.

Thanks everyone who assisted me here and also Mrs. Pinecone too!!
Joan

I tried the WAGS diapers for the first time today, and I just wanted to post my review of them. I am using them on my 2 year old. They hold up pretty well but one thing I noticed was that after I took the diaper off (just a pee diaper) some of the filling was left on her butt. It wasn't too bad, I've seen worse with other brands of diapers, like White Cloud, but it was enough to take a baby wipe to her. I NEVER have this problem with Pampers or Huggies. It's not an issue for her now, but it would have been as a newborn. Newborns typically have more sensitive skin, I just wouldn't use these on a newborn.

We saved the most money possible with diapers by using cloth. We took all the second hand we could get from family and then ordered the rest online from Mother Ease. We found their prices affordable. Help the environment too!

You are I haven't read all of the responses, but I will agree with not buying too many right now. My DD was around 8 lbs and only went through 1 pkg of newborn before they started leaking. She was in size 1's for maybe a month, size 2's for a month or two and has been in size 3's for nearly 6 months now. She jumps to the next size way early because she is very tall and we get leaks out the top (regardless of brand). Also, some babies can get a reaction to a certain brand.

A friend of mine gave me a "goodie" basket and this was sooo helpful. You can find lots of these things very cheaply using sales and coupons, so they might be a good thing to give in addition to some diapers.

Diaper cream
Wipes (these NEVER get outgrown!!!)
All kinds of lotions/baby wash/misc toiletries
Aceteminophen/Ibuprofen

There are a lot of generous retailers out there that will allow you to exchange diapers, so if you can get them for cheap, buy them! I only agree to not stockpile a lot of newborn size. I understand that all babies are different, but I stockpiled for my baby and it totally paid off. I would hate being forced to buy diapers when they're not on sale or when I don't believe it's a good deal. Plus, diapers make awesome gifts.
