Has anyone used "Your Baby Can Read" program?

We haven't used the program, but we let our kids decide when to read on their own. Our now five year old, knew all the letters and sounds (and could write words) shortly after she turned 4. Now we started homeschooling in August (she's supposed to be in kindergarten) and she is sailing through the 1st grade reading comprehension, spelling, phonics, etc. She has independently read over 80 books since September. (We've been slacking the last couple weeks because we've been packing to move). Basically, she just picked up a book one day and read it.

So, just make sure you are listening to your child's cues. Our 2nd dd, who is now 4, already can read more than our first daughter did at her age. I look forward to stimulating her desire to learn without pushing it on her.

It all depends on the child...I say go with what ever the child seems ready for and if you truely do have a gifted child and they are ready to read at a very young age I think you can teach them just as well with kids books and stuff from your local lib. without spending hundreds of dollars.

I think all the programs like this are kind of a scam ...I think if you take any information and drill it into a child's head it will work .... convincing a parent that it's all because of a specific program is just a joke. Not saying it's ness. a bad program just saying I don't understand why someone would spend money on something they can do for free or little money all on their own.

Check your local library. We have checked it out NUMEROUS times! It's a great program...but I am too frugal to spend $200 on it, even though it is for my DD. My grandmother (retired reading teacher) told me about this reading program and asked if I had seen the commercials on TV. I said I hadn't but went online. The program for my DD (18m) is not so much about reading, but more of symbol recognition. She is not actually reading the word, but rather associating the letters with what is said. She will yell out what it says before they say anything, I figure that's good enough at this point and I believe it is a great starting point!! We'll be able to build off this in the future. I don't think it can hurt to start early if you do it at their pace. She requests it every morning! :) Hope that helps.

Does anyone have any info on either the Baby Einstein DVDs or the Your Baby Can Read DVDs/Program? I'm wondering if either is worth the money. Thanks a bunch

Well a study found that kids who watched baby einstien dvd's learned 9? fewer words per day than kids who didn't. My daughter has one at her nana's house. I'm not super impressed with it, she like the animals but it only ID's like hald of them with words. Don't know about the my baby can read.

We went for it and bought it for our daughter. Even if she doesn't learn to read she absoluteoy loves it. We found out that our nephew had used this program and is only 2 years old and can speak perfectly and read pretty well already! It is just as much as if I bought the baby einstein set or similar Dvds so its worth a try and so far so good (knock on wood) :)

I read at an early age and was at a 4th grade reading level when I started 1st grade. My parents and teachers had a meeting and decided that during reading time I would go to whatever grade level I was at so that I was stimulated. I learned alot of social skills this way because I had to interact with kids 3 years older than me.

I have a 4 y/o DS who can read some but not much. We just work with him when he wants.

Wow, it costs $200 to order now?? We used to be able to sell it through Usborne Books and it was only $80 and could be earned free for having a home show. I did buy it and played it for my son who was 3 at the time. It is a good program and could work if you are consistent with it. You are supposed to play one video every day for a month and then do the next video every day for a month, etc. I found that I would remember to do it for a couple weeks and then forget about it for a while. My son did start reading at 4 1/2, but I attribute it to Starfall.com not the Your Baby Can Read. Starfall encourages learning the sounds of letters, not just associating words to actions. Best of all, Starfall is free.
