I have bought lots of car seats over the years, ranging from the cheapest I could find to much better seats. I strongly reccomend Britax. My daughter would cry all the time in the car, but when I got the Britax she suddenly is content. I guess she found the Evenflo infant seat uncomfortable? I got a Britax roundabout and really love it. It is much easier to get installed tightly than the others, has nice features like little velcro tabs that hold the straps out of the way while you are putting the child in the seat, and did I mention that she doesn't cry in the car anymore? Yea! They also have a reputation for being the safest seat out there. I know they cost more than the cheap seats, but if you shop around the difference isn't too bad. Also, if you plan more children, the Britax are good for 10 years, while most of the others are only good for 6. I would have saved a lot of money had I simply purchased a Britax with my first because I would't have had to buy new seats for my baby.

You can get a roundabout here for $150, but there is a very limited selection of covers--but since that is $70 less than most places, I will deal with it. Britax|Roundabout |Car Seat|sale|lowest price|

You can get a marathon for $220 at Britax Marathon Convertible Car Seat in Brownstone

If it were me, I would get a marathon if you aren't planning any more children and have a big enough car. This is because the weight limit is much higher (65 lbs), so he can use it much longer.

If you are planning another child such that the second will be in a convertable seat before your oldest is out of a car seat, you will need a booster seat for him anyway when the baby needs the convertable. In that case, go with the roundabout to save yourself some money.

If you are using limited funds, the Evenflo Triumph Advance is about $125 and has the same safety ratings as the Britax. It goes up to 50 lb.

We have one for the Pinenut and will be getting another for #2.

If you have a Big Lots, check there. My brother scooped up the one MrsPincone suggested and it was either $79 or $89.

thanks for ya'lls responses!! I am having a garage sale this weekend and I am going to buy one with the money I make (hopefully!!)

I really wanted the Britax one, but hubby says that is too much for a carseat for the last baby.

I do have a big lots, and I will check there. I have been looking at them all week at other stores. My walmart was out of the cosco one. I will let you all know what I decide!! I really did not want to have to get a used one, so I decided on the garage sale.

I completely agree with TheWoman (I love that screename!). I recently purchased the Britax Marathon for my little guy - he's 11 months old and 25lbs+ so I guess he's kind of a big guy . I love everything about this seat. It is very secure, it's the only carseat I've ever owned that does not move. It's as secure now as it was 2-3 months ago when I installed it. I splurged and bought the 'Cowmooflage' pattern - it's too cute! I found a pretty good deal online ($239) with no shipping/no tax. I know this seat will last until he outgrows it.

Also check TJ Maxx and Marshalls, they often have really expensive car seats and strollers for almost half price!

Default Convertible Car Seats

I'm looking to buy a convertible car seat for my little guy as he's 7 mo now and will soon outgrow his infant seat since he's so tall. I've been reading reviews and checking them out in stores, so I have an idea of what's available. What I really need help on is finding a car seat that will fit in my car rearfacing. I haven't been able to find anything online about VW GTIs and car seats.

If anyone has a VW Golf or GTI, could you please let me know what seat you are using/have used? I love my car and hate the thought of having to sell it because I can't find a rear-facing carseat that will fit.

Thanks in advance!!!

Default Re: Convertible Car Seats

Go to a babies R Us and try them out. They will allow you to take the floor model out to your car and see what works. If you don't plan to buy the day you try them out, take your camera and take pictures/make notes about how each seat fits and how hard it is to install.

Also, I'm in the same position as you and I just went to wal-mart and bought the cosco scenera for $49. It's nothing fancy but has excellent reviews and it fits well. Other seats I'm considering (after I have a chance to save some $$) are the Radian 65 ($199) by Sunshine kids or the Recaro Signo ($248) both with great reviews and smaller "footprints". Added bonus to the later two seats is that they have a much higher weight/height limit in the forward facing position so they should last for quite some time.
