Re: need a convertable car seat I have bought lots of car seats over the years, ranging from the cheapest I could find to much better seats. I strongly reccomend Britax. My daughter would cry all the time in the car, but when I got the Britax she suddenly is content. I guess she found the Evenflo infant seat uncomfortable? I got a Britax roundabout and really love it. It is much easier to get installed tightly than the others, has nice features like little velcro tabs that hold the straps out of the way while you are putting the child in the seat, and did I mention that she doesn't cry in the car anymore? Yea! They also have a reputation for being the safest seat out there. I know they cost more than the cheap seats, but if you shop around the difference isn't too bad. Also, if you plan more children, the Britax are good for 10 years, while most of the others are only good for 6. I would have saved a lot of money had I simply purchased a Britax with my first because I would't have had to buy new seats for my baby.
You can get a roundabout here for $150, but there is a very limited selection of covers--but since that is $70 less than most places, I will deal with it. Britax|Roundabout |Car Seat|sale|lowest price|
You can get a marathon for $220 at Britax Marathon Convertible Car Seat in Brownstone
If it were me, I would get a marathon if you aren't planning any more children and have a big enough car. This is because the weight limit is much higher (65 lbs), so he can use it much longer.
If you are planning another child such that the second will be in a convertable seat before your oldest is out of a car seat, you will need a booster seat for him anyway when the baby needs the convertable. In that case, go with the roundabout to save yourself some money.
