Anyone here used a doula? Anyone here a certified doula? I am considering getting my certification. Any input is greatly appreciated.

I used a doula last year for the birth of my first child, actually she was an apprentice. It was the best thing I ever did. I met with her several times before labor. I tlaked to her on the phone when I was in early labor - she could have come to my house. She met me at the hospital. She had great pain relieving techniques and was my advocate through it all. She was a wonderful support system.

I am a certified doula through ALACE. ALACE stands for the Association of Labor Assistants and Childbirth Educators. I find being a doula rewarding, fun, exciting, and awe inspiring. I love being able to witness babies being born and the bond that is formed in that first few moments between the parents and infant!

I am in the process of training to be a doula through CAPPA (childbirth and postpartum professionals association). I love it. I've always loved being pregnant and giving birth.

I think I am going to get certified through DONA....they have the classes close to me, and relatively often too. How much do you ladies charge & what kind of area are you in (rural, city, etc...)?

i did my training through DONA 6 yrs ago this month. i LOVE being a doula!!! i don't get to do this anymore b/c of having my own kids, but once my baby is older and dh is more settled w/his job, i'm considering going back to it. it is a very rewarding experience.

i live in a rural area and my charges depended upon each individual situation. sometimes i bartered for housecleaning, getting my toilet fixed, etc. that's the best payment i think.
