Default 19 month old very hard to change = time for pull up diapers?

DS is 19 months and is such a wiggle worm - he will not lie still for a diaper change. I'm thinking of switching to the pull up type diapers. After my diaper stockpile goes down LOL - probably have another 6 weeks. Thoughts? He steps into his clothes and is easy to dress. Is he too young? Do they hold in pee and poop as well as diapers. Will this mess up potty training????

TY

DD has been wearing pull-ups since about that age. She is now 2. She wears pull-ups when she is asleep. She is potty-trained, so she doesn't wear anything but panties when she is awake.

Also, ones like "Easy-ups" seem to hold as much pee and poop as regular diapers. However, Feel N' Learns hold much less, in my opinion. I haven't tried Huggies brand, so I'm not sure about that.

For us, they worked well with potty-training. It was much easier to take her potty, especially out in public, when she was wearing a pull-up, because I didn't have to lay her down to get a regular diaper on properly.

She also was squirmy, so it was great to just make her stand still for a second to put them on and off. When she used to poop in them, you can just tear the sides and take it off like a regular diaper. Hope that helps!

Try having him stand up while changing his diaper to use up your stockpile & then switch over to pull ups.

Put him on the potty in between changes.

OMG, I'm going through the same thing! Pre-terrible two mothers, UNITE!! I have to throw myself on top of my 20 month old DD and she cries and her bottom lip and jaw quiver! So, it's time to make the change, huh? Good things I saved those Q's! And thanks to those who gave advice!

The Huggies Pull-ups hold pee and poop really well.....I have a 6 yr old that still wears them at night. I know some of you must be thinkin, my gosh she is too old for that, but she has delays and wasnt potty trained until almost 5.

Huggies works the best in my opinion.

my 2 cents(and my kids are 8 and 6)
my son NEVER wore pullups of anysort, was in those thick undy things (kinda like underwear) at 18 months, was fully potty trained by 2 an half - i had a washer and dryer with him hence the thick undy things
my daughter @ 18 months i stopped buying diapers and started with pullups(whatever kind i could afford, usually store brand at about $8 a week) when she was 2 she was fully potty trained, except was still having accidents until she turned 3 at night, if i would have had a washer and dryer i think my daughter would have been potty trained sooner as my son wore the undy things, my daughter didnt, yet she had accidents at night for a year longer then my son did and all she wore was pullups

Ok thanks guys. Actually I was not even thinking of starting potty training but now you guys have me thinking I need to read up on it more. I thought boys were slower than girls regarding potty training and they usually were potty trained by 2.5 to 3 years.

All of my boys were not potty trained until they were 3. We started at 2.5 years and they were fully potty trained at 3 years. No way were any of mine ready at 19 months. You can try, but it may be hard.

First of all, PLEASE do not rush him. If it hasn't been on your mind it's probably because he hasn't been showing signs of readiness. My oldest two (girls) were not potty trained until they were 3 years old. They just were not ready prior to that, it had nothing to do with me not "trying". Some kids potty train earlier than that, but there is really no reason to rush them.

Anyway, back on topic about the Pull-ups. We have tried all the varieties available to us.

Easy-ups hold just as much as regular diapers. They are also softer than some of the other versions. Thus, they were my favorites. They don't have "pull-apart sides", but in actuality they do pull apart very easily, but not easy enough for the child to do themselves.

Feel 'n' learn, Pull-ups, etc. are geared more toward kids that are potty training. They have liners in them that are supposed to help the child realize they are wet. They don't hold as much pee (again since they are geared toward PTing). They seemed to leak after just one pee. Meaning that it would cost you more money because of more diaper changes. The "pull-apart sides" on these are also a danger zone for curious toddlers. Mine figured out how to get theirs off VERY quickly.

The store brand ones like Target are about the same as their diapers. I didn't like either of them as well as the Easy-ups, but they may work for some.

My personal opinion on the diff brands is Easy Ups are the best also. I noticed my grandson getting rubbed raw on the inside of his leg now and then,,and upon inspection of the Pull Up brand from Huggies,,i noticed the edging was not very soft. So i went to the store myself and bought the Pampers brand Easy Ups. Like jkelstaten said,,they are extremely soft,,and hold as much as a regular diaper. My grandson will be 3 next month and DD is starting to work on the PT idea. I bought a pkg to send home with him and kept the Pull Ups here. Not sure what I will do with them yet,,but he wont be wearing them. I will be buying the underwear also with the thicker lining down the middle,,,summer is coming and so a perfect time to start potty training. Mamaw will get it done this summer while he is at my house lol...hope this helps anyone looking at the different brands.
