| | Cloth diapers? Does anyone use cloth? I'm seriously considering switching to using them at least part time and was looking for opinions on types =) I'm looking at the AIOs and pockets mainly. Any info would be awesome! |

Any info would be awesome! | My guys are older, but I did use cloth. Back then (17 years ago ) I used the pre folded diapers with rubber pants...They were just coming out the combo's and they weren't very good. How I did it was:
Used a liner, made tossing messes in the toilet easy
Tossed them in a lidded small can with a bag, and dumped it all in the washer at the end of each day. I used lysol laundry sanitizer and Dreft, and about once a week, I would gather all of them and bleach them, then rewash and extra rinse. I will say, disposables are better when traveling. I wasn't a huge couponer back then, so I reached a point of calculating washing everyday, extra detergent, sanitizer, extra bleach, time,etc...and found I did better with coupons/sales/disposables. I did the cloth because I was trying to be green, then I found out something like .02% of landfill waste was diapers. I was young, what did I know. That was my first glimpse into what I now know to be stockpiling. When I found diaper deals we got stocked up. I had some left over for the 2nd child to grow into of a couple sizes.
Congrat's and good luck BTW!!

| | Re: Cloth diapers? I have used cloth diapers on my kiddos for the past 6 years. I would recommend it as both a way to save money and the planet. I'd would recommend keeping bleach far, far away from any pocket or AIO's
A couple of good web references are the diapering forum at mothering.com and the realdiaperassociation.org
Are you expecting or is this for a child already here? I would have some recommendations based on the age and size of your kiddo.

| | Re: Cloth diapers? He's almost 14 months - I've been finding a lot of info on diaperswapper too. I'm just tired of changing mainly wet diapers and throwing them away, I'm tired of all the trash and it would just be easier (for me) to wash the dang things than keep throwing my $$ away on wet diapers. Plus some of them are way cuter ;) (I generally know when he's going to poo so unless I miss it or he has a suprise it'll probably be in a disposable, lol!) |

| | Re: Cloth diapers? You little guy is at an age that he might wear the same size diapers until potty learning. If you had 18 diapers (plus a few disposibles for back-up) you'd have plenty.
I like the petite toddler fuzzbunz for my skinny (and not especially tall either) nearly three year old. Toddler poo often just rolls into the toliet (sorry if that TMI anyone) and really isn't too big of a hassel as long as you home anyway.
I'd get 18 pockets, 18-24 prefolds or flat to stuff them with and two or three dozen cheap washclothes for wipes.

| | Re: Cloth diapers? My 22 month old has been wearing the same set of 20 Fuzzi Bunz since he was about 5 months old. Definitely a savings there even though there was a high upfront cost. I just switched him back to sposies this week though as my newly pg self cannot handle the cloth at the moment.
I really like cloth. We'll be switching back once I stop feeling totally pukey, and I'll be using them again with the next baby. :) I still have the newborn ones from ds, so that child will be free to diaper.

| | Re: Cloth diapers? Hello, I plan on CD'ing w/Fuzzi Bunz and I found a website that sells a 'starter package' for $350. (I'll copy/paste from the website).
From what I've heard so far, it's a good deal, especially since it takes the hassle out of figuring everything you'll need. I'll be adding to my order the larger Charlie's soap option and a Herbal Bottom Balm since it works well with cd's. Fuzzi Bunz Store 18 Fuzzi Bunz Diapers - 18 Fuzzi Bunz is a good number to wash every other day for most babies. You get your choice of Fuzzi Bunz colors. If you find that you need additional Fuzzi Bunz you can always come back for more. MSRP $17.95. ea. 20 Inserts - You get 20 inserts plus 3 hemp prefolds for overnight, naps, or your super soaker baby. 3 Add-Ins - You get 3 of these to add to the insert to give it a little more absorbency when going on a long excursion, nap-time, or if you have a heavy wetter. Either lay flat or fold and place where needed the most. These add some absorbency without adding much bulk to your Fuzzi Bunz. MSRP $2.00 to $2.50 ea. 3 pks cloth wipes (qty 18) - If you are cloth diapering then you might as well use cloth wipes. Your choice of fabric. Clean up is a breeze when using a good wipes solution (you'll be getting that too!) MSRP $5.50 to $7.50 per pack. Natural Wipes Spray - A Fuzzi Bunz Store favorite clean up solution. Takes the stink right out of the air and makes cleaning baby's bottom easy. Simply wet the wipe with water and spray baby's bottom with the solution. MSRP $8.95 ea. 2 Pail Liners - You'll need two because while one is washing the other will be in the pail. The best storage solution. Toss in with your Fuzzi Bunz diapers to wash and dry. MSRP $13.50 - $24.00 ea. Diaper tote - On the go? A easy storage solution for your dirty Fuzzi Bunz diapers. MSRP $9.00 to 10.00 **Now option to upgrade to a cute Printed Zippered Wet Bag regular size for $6.50 extra. Choose from neutral, girl, boy, or mama print. Check them out in our diaper pails and totes category. Charlie's Soap-- Comes with a 80 load powder. MSRP $12.85. You may change to liquid gallon for additional charge. 1 oz. Tea Tree Oil - Use in your wash to freshen and use in the pail liner to keep the smell away. $7.95 ea. :) |

| | Re: Cloth diapers? We use cloth on this baby (5 months old) and used cloth on DD#2 from 14 months on up. With DD#2 she was 22lbs. already and we found that the large Fuzzi Bunz worked great for her except that when she started to slim down the leg elastic was too worn and left gaps. But that was probably more because we were not the first owners and the diapers had been through years of use.
Then, since the diapers we had for her were sadly abused with our laundry situation overseas we had to get rid of them, so for the new baby we got One-size pocket diapers called Haute Pockets. They have worked great. They have lots of different settings so that you can get just the right fit Which is great for us because our babies tend to go through some major size changes. Chubby to slim/tall to chubby and back again.....We've got 18 diapers that we usually use and then I have some pretty fitted diapers that we have left over from DD#2 that I use as backups if I don't get to the laundry fast enough.
Right now we use disposables at night, but it's mostly out of laziness. DD sleeps with me for part of the night usually and I don't want to deal with figuring out how much stuffing she needs...lol! Once she starts sleeping through the night in her own bed, I'll switch to doing cloth then too, like we did with DD#2.
If you have any questions feel free to PM me. I'll be out for the evening, so this thread will probably be buried before I get to check back.

| | Re: Cloth diapers? I've used cloth on all 4 of my kids and it's been the best money saver! My dd is wearing some of the diapers my oldest ds wore 6 years ago. I've used all kinds of combos, AIO's, pocket, fitteds with covers, prefolds with covers, and I have a lot of friends that use cloth. My biggest recomendation would be to try a bit of the different varieties before putting lots of money into one system. I have a friend who planned on using BumGenius diapers and is now only using fitteds and covers, she sold her entire stash of BumGenius before her ds was 2 months old.
I just bought 4 Thirsties AIO diapers that have a pocket in them so you can add inserts for overnight or long car trips. I love them, they are my favorite diaper so far. Thirsties just started making these so they may be a bit hard to find I had to wait a few weeks to get mine.
