Funstuff Frugalness at it's best! (Must know how to sew or spend money!)

I started finding coupons and deals on diapers when I first joined this website and recently I've gotten into cloth diapering. Since I like to sew I then thought how great would it be to never buy pads again too? So I made myself a bunch of those. Then I remembered when I was breastfeeding how many of those disposable breast padsI went through so I made those too (they can be made with pretty small scraps of fabric) and lastly, yesterday I made a bunch of cloth wipes (by far the easiest and quickest thing I've ever made!) If anyone wants any info on this stuff feel free to ask me - it saves a lot of money, it's better for the environment and I actually feel better using things that I made and know where they came from.

Would you be interested in possibly making them and selling them? Just a thought, I tried to sew stuff for my first son, but I don't think any of it is going to make it to #2 as I am pregnant now. Just a thought, let me know?

I've wanted to do this for a while myself, but have not because was afraid of leakage of using the pads and how to propperly sterlize them after each use. What is your suggestions for that ? thanks for your help.

I was afraid of leakage too but you get to know how long you can wear them for plus you can change them more often because you won't feel like you're "wasting" it. I found a website that you can make cloth diapers from old clothes and they suggest using cut up shower curtain or rubber pants so I guess you could do the same...
I learned about washing them from this website:

I could make them for you but they aren't going to look like they're from a store (I'm not perfect ;0P), if you want to check ebay I've seen some nice professional looking stuff on there...

Etsy.com has a bunch of sellers who make cloth pads and diapers. You may want to check them out. Most sellers are reasonably priced.

I was doing cloth with my first, and I LOVED IT, but then we moved with my parents... or they moved with us... long story, so we could not in 1 bathroom have a bucket of dirty diapers... plus, we had to re-adjust, and cloth diapering went out the window, specially since I have no place to hand dry here.
We used "flat" diapers, the square type that we then folded in a special way to be more absorbant... and then just wash and dry.. the other type of cloth diapers... take longer to dry... by the way, let your girlfriends know that you need receiving blankets... not new, the old one that they are not using anymore....that is what I used for flats.

PM if you want the website of a really GOOOOOOOD "covers" the thing for the outside.

Default Re: Cloth diapers?

My DD is 9 months old and she is cloth diapered. I didn't read the whole thread but there is a wondeful forum soley dedicated to colth diapering mamas. I learned most of what I know from there. All told, I've spent less than $250 on diapers to date mainly by trading and buy FFS (free for shipping) and shoping deals. I primarily use prefold when were at home, at night and when were out and about, AIO (All in ones).

She has never had a diaper rash, and we have saved a TON of money and our poor landfills. I love cloth diapering, and her tush looks so cute and squishy!

I don't think my post should have been merged, I talked about other things besides cloth diapers.

Default cloth diapering

i am always surprised to come on here and see people buying diapers! i was just wondering if there are any other CDers here?

before dd was born we got a bunch of fancy diapers for many reasons: environmental, health, and serious cuteness. ;) also, i'm probably in the minority but i find sposies really gross and smelly.

i spent about a year buying and selling every different kind of diaper aios, pockets, fitteds, wool in every different style and brand. ok well not including WAHMs lol!

now as my dd is turning 2 she is 90% day trained (including naps!!! woo hoo!) we have been using prefolds and dappi pull on pants. i seriously wish i would have started with this simple SUPER CHEAP system to start.

i have 2 dozen prefolds that cost about $30, 8 covers for $4 and a wetbag from fsot that cost $15. she has been using these for over a year now! i also have some wool longies but these weren't cheap so i won't go there. also i just totally splurged on cloth trainers. so cute, so embarrassing how much i payed for them.
