Default Re: Cloth diapers?

I too cloth DS who is 16m old, and will do the same for new baby due in July :)

DS has been clothed since day 1, we use prefolds with wool covers, or just bummis covers, and use FB and SB with inserts :)

It has saved TONS of money, and really is not hard at all, plus I dont use alot of trash!!! DS has NEVER had a diaper rash either, so no need for diaper creams :) I got my whole stash for around 150 bucks USED, used is not bad as long as you know how to wash and care for them :)

I have cloth diapered both my girls so far and it has saved us a ton of money. The washing routine really isn't harder than any other laundry and it is great knowing that you are not contributing to the landfill.

Forgive me if this has been posted already, but if you can sew, making your own diapers can save a ton of money. With the fabric I have, I can make five diapers for the price of one Fuzzi Bunz (about $13-$15 each usually). I use flannel (I get soft cotton flannel sheets from the thrift store and use that) and PUL, and you can get cheap patterns...Very Baby is a popular, easy one. We've had a great experience with cloth with our son, and will put baby #2 in cloth as well.

We're just starting into the world of CD. I'm waiting on my first order of diapers to arrive at the moment. I ordered one of each of a few different types of pocket diapers and AIOs just to see what works best for us first. I really like that they have some one size diapers now so that you can get longer use out of them. Also, I ordered a couple AIOs that also have pockets so that I can stuff them if needed, but I don't necessarily have to.

My DS is almost 6 months old, and yes, I do have a stash of disposable diapers, but he hates being wet which results in many changes a day. The trash amount is just ridiculous to me!

The main reason that I'm buying them is that he leaks through EVERYTHING at night. I have tried overnight diapers, going up a size, diaper doublers, you name it I've done it, and he still wets through on most nights(he sleeps about 9-10 hours). A friend of mine claims that after she went to cloth she didn't have any more night leaks, because she could easily customize the diaper to the absorbancy she needed. I am hoping that this will work for us as well. We're just starting out part time for right now, and depending on how it goes will move to full time CD. My daycare provider hasn't ever used the new CDs, but is willing to try it if I want to put the $$ into it. DH said NO to prefolds, because they look too complicated. LOL So we're just going with the easiest ones right now.

I love all the cute diapers! I am sure that it will be very addicting.

we are just getting ready to start cloth diapers with our 9 mos old son. I am just tired of throwing away my money, and he hates being wet so we change him often anyways. We bought one bumGenius 3.0 to see how we like that one, I am hoping to be able to get some used ones from diaperswappers. I will probably do some prefolds with covers too, right now we are just trying to find what we like.

We do it part time. I LOVE cloth diapers. DH hates them but will occasionally put a CD on instead of a disposable (depends on which kind is closer). I don't even bother with cloth at day care, but my kids are only there in the evening 2 nights a week so it is no big deal.

I have never tried the other kinds. I started out with prefolds and love them.

I tried all kinds of diapers with my DD (now 4). I liked Fuzzi Bunz the best so I use Fuzzi Bunz pt with both of my boys. One is almost 2y / 30lbs and the other 5 mo / 15lbs and they can both wear the med size FBs. It is really nice because I didn't have to buy extra dipes for #3 I just wash more frequently. I used disposables until he was big enough to fit in the FBs because it didn't take that long for him to grow and I had a lot of people helping me out in the first few months and some people don't like to mess with cloth. I LOVE it though. I would do full time now, except we are on the go too much and I don't have room for two sets of soiled diapers in my diaper bag

Ok, so here is my experience so far with cloth. I love the BumGenius 3.0, we have 1 right now. I also love the prefolds, however I think the 2 I have (bought used) are alittle small, and the cover that I put over it chaffed my DS legs. I am thinking about using BumGenius for overnight, and then a prefold with a fleece cover (I want to try to make them) for during the day.

One question I have, we have coin laundry...do any of you handwash your diapers, or has anybody used a portable washing machine?

No, but have you tried using a diaper sprayer? Might shorten your washing routine! Scroll down to the last product on the page...
