I used cloth with my second, but not with my first or third. I didn't mind it at all-big money saver.

I used cloth for all three of my kids until they were potty-trained. None of them ever had a case of diaper rash and I attribute it to the cloth diapers. I did sometimes use disposable at night when they slept through the night. I used breathable diaper covers too. For the first 6-9 months I used a diaper service and then I washed my own. I saved tons of money but did it because I'm convinced it's best for their skin and the environment.

We love cloth diapers at our house, I am lucky my friend has a clothdiaper business so I have been able to try lots of diapers, so far my favorite are Bumgenious OS and the new Bumgenious Flip system. The flip system on my 2 year old is as trim as a disposable and you can reuse the covers and its onesize to boot! I use the staydry inserts and they are as absorbant as the inserts in the Bumgenious OS, Id say 6 Flip covers and 24 staydry inserts and you would be good to go for most of the diaper years.

Nice to see so many other recent mommas have CD's their LOs!

When I was preggo with DD (now 2) I stumbled onto the world of CDs and was able to get her into them at 3mos old. Did GMD (GreenMountainDiapers.com) prefolds, pins and snappis. I started with pins because I liked the clean look. However, the snappis were much easier once I got the hang of them. I also found DiaperSwappers.com and LOVED trading on their, buying dipes made from WaHMs, etc. DH indulged me to buy a few really squishy, colorful covers and I even moved into using a few Pockets, stuffed with the smaller prefolds. It took awhile for me to CALM DOWN and just find a system that worked instead of "Ohhh, that is SOOO cute!!! Lemme get it!"

In the end we had a nice stash of GMD yellow-edged prefolds, Swaddlebees Pockets, GAD (GreenAcreDesigns) Pockets, Thirsties Covers and JamTots BerryPlush Covers that got her thru 2-3mos until just over a year old. I gave up earlier than I wanted because I got SICK of hand washing them all...

We are in an apt and not only did I not want lip from others if they found my dipes in the wash. Also, when I did try to wash them in the machine they didn't get nearly as perfectly clean as I was used to with them being handwashed. Handwashing + the Phoenix sun = my prefolds always looked like I just bought them! Even in her tiny baby days, with her lovely exclusively breastfeed poo :gag: But oi handwashing was SUCH a pain...

The best thing? We used cloth plus a really lazy, inconsistent form of EC (Elimination Communication). She learned how to use the potty @ 15 months for peeing and a few months later for poo. Fantastic! All done before she was 2! We still need to night learn, but I'm not worried about that.

We switched to disposables about the time I found HCW which was nice. Never had to stockpile that many because she just wears panties during the day and she uses one disposable at night. Going thru only one package of diapers a month is wonderful!

If your considering CDing, it is totally worth it but try not to go crazy! All that cuteness is addicting!

Kids Re: Cloth diapers?

Has anyone tried Kawaii CD's? I've been lurking on CD boards and everyone seems to love them. I transitioning my 2 LO's (10 months and 2 years) into CD's and I'm just starting out. They are AIO like BG's :)

I'm debating on 2 things -

How many should I start out with having 2 LO's???
Should I go for velcro or snaps?? That seems to be a personal decision but being new I'm just not sure. I like the idea of snaps but velcro seems a lot easier.....

TIA =)

ETA - here are a few links to the seller - same woman, different *styles*

I have not tried the brand you mentioned, but I have tried MANY MANY different kinds and my opinion is

SNAPS SNAPS SNAPS (whatever kind you get)

I regret getting velcro pocket diapers and ended up paying to have them converted to snaps. you will find snap conversion to be a big business.

i didn't mind velco on some of my basic (Bummis) covers, but they didn't get washed very often.

Velcro or Aplix will eventually collect hair, string, bits of fuzz (you name it). It will also possibly snag your diapers or the diapers will get caught together. My diapers that have snaps look great after a year of use, but my diapers with velcro/aplix look worn where the velcro is located. Also, when you buy new diapers, the velcro area looks all clean and neat, but over time it's color will change and not look as neat. If you are really interested in resale value, go snap.
Also, my 2 year old can just rip his velcro diapers right off (doesn't help that they don't hold very securely in the first place), but the snaps he cannot undo.
I think different brands will try to sell you on the idea that their velco (or type of) is better than others.....but my experience, with multiple kinds is that it eventually just looks worn down at some point.

You may want to check out some different cloth diaper boards and see what opinions are there!!! good luck!

I cloth diapered my son when he was around 9 mos old and used homemade pocket diapers and 1 BumGenius OS. I ended up stopping because of him figuring out how to take off the diapers.

Once my daughter was born we decided to cloth diaper again, so I am cloth diapering my 2 1/2 year old son and 6 week old daughter. My starting stash consisted of 4 flip covers with 12 stay dry inserts and 3 econobum covers with 12 inserts (look like prefolds). Both the flips and econobum are snap and OS (7-35lbs). They are huge on my daughter but I like how they will fit both.

I have since expanded my stash to include 6 prefolds, 18 flats, and 8 receiving blankets (work like flats only cuter). I am also working on some fleece soakers/covers.

I was able to diaper both kids with my initial stash of 7 covers and 24 inserts but had to wash everyday to make sure I didn't run out. Now I can wash every other day and have only had to hand wash a few covers to get me through (With both covers if there is a BM it escapes onto the cover but has not leaked out at all, including my daughters breastfed/formula BMs).

I personally really like snaps. The velcro gets the dreaded diaper chain if/when the laundry tabs wear out and the ones I had (couple gDiaper and the 1 BumGenius) have worn a bit and the gDiaper don't hold at all and they are only 8 mos old.

With the snaps you can usually get a really good fit that is adjustable to fit each child, especially if you are using the same stash for both kids.

With the Kawaii's, I've never used them but with them being AIO's you will probably need at least 24. You will probably have to wash everyday, maybe every other since your youngest is a little older than my youngest. Also know that microfiber is prone to getting "stinkies" because of it being a synthetic material. It is super absorbent though and I use it in my stash, but I know that there is a chance I will have to strip it because of build up.
