    Default Private Schools

I was wondering how much do you pay for your private schools? I would love to be able to put DS into the one that we have here, next year when he starts. I have only known of one person ever go to a private school. But that was back in the early 90's. After watching a 2020 special about public schools, I have wanted to learn more about private schools.

You'll find a very wide range of prices. They'll vary based on type of school (parachial, college prep, etc), your location, grade of your child, school offerings---

Really what one person pays here couldn't be coorelated to what you'd pay unless they happen to want the same type of schooling and are in the same location.

The college prep school that we looked into for my children would have cost us $4000/year for each child, and books, fees, and lunches are on top of that. That's for primary school, then high school bumps up to $6000 per year per child.

My DHs nephew goes to a private school that runs $26,000 per year. As mama said, there will be a huge variation in prices. The best thing to do is to start calling places around you.

You can also look at Charter schools if your area has them. They are like private schools but are public funded. Another option too.

I just called the local one here and its $200 a month. Not to bad, I just cant convince DH that it would be a better idea than public. The way I see it I don't want my kids to grow up to be just "fine". I want them to be successful, and if we have to sacrifice some for it them I'm for it.

Call the school and ask for a tour and you and your dh go. You and he can ask the questions that you need to. You can also ask to speak to other parents to talk to them and then make a decision. Most schools will have no prob with this and most parents who like the school will have no problem with it either. My children went to a private pre-school which had K5 in it also. It was great but I had different experiences. My oldest has a learning disability and it was not discovered until 1st grade in public school. Daughter it was great, no complaints. Youngest son-is gift and taleneted. His bday is the cut off date and when he was 4 he was in the 3 yr old program at the private school and the 4 yr old program at the public school and was a star in each class. He went onto K in the public school and he was a star there. By the time he started school, the public schools and caught up with the private school so the private school was just throwing money away.

It all just kinda depends. I have seen kids where the private school created the kids to excel and some where they didn't. Other kids, it didn't make a difference.

Yes I think I will call and go check it out closer to the time he starts. I figure he could go until youngest starts school, in about 5 years. After that he could be put into public school. Then youngest could go to the academy.

I would have loved those prices-lol! In our area, there are 2-3 "good" private schools & are about $4000 up til 5th or 6th grade. The only private jr high/high school (college prep) is about $12k annually...with a token discount if you enroll siblings. We were going to go the private route for jr high & high school...but can't afford $36k a year for 3 kids. Would rather put that money towards college.
    Peace, Lisa
