On my receipts yesterday, I got the $5 off 25 coupon for this Thurs and Fri.

Is this before mfr coupons? Otherwise, would not be work it.

I got a similar one in the mail...$5/$20 because they remodeled the store and was thinking I might use it...to buy things that I just never have coupons for..or heck maybe some clothing.

I got the 5/25 on a register tape and it states the following:
"Valid at Dollar General Stores and Doller General Market Stores from September 16 thru September 17, 2010 only. Must present discount coupon to cashier. Limit one per customer. Not valid with any other coupons or offers. No cash value." etc. blah blah blah.

Real bummer since I was planning to get the 30 oz $2 Gain Dish soap really cheap. Now I guess I will get their $1 grape jelly for a food pantry. Cheapest jelly I have found. At least it won't go to waste.

Well, coupon starts tomorrow (Thurs). I'll give it a shot, but only if I can also use mfr coupons.

It was a ymmv situation for me last time.

I bought mostly things I don't normally have coupons for like dg brand ridex, sodas, junk, bread and clearance summer stuff.

Some stores I had no problem at and the coupon worked when they scanned it and I was below $25.

Some stores would not try it. Said it was post q 5/25,

Some stores tried it but scanned the 5/25 first (except for one and my total was 12.xx at that one). Those stores that scanned the $5 first - the register would not accept anything after that $5 coupon.


Be warned, the crts will look like target receipts.
Funky prices.
My bottled 5.00 water was some absurd amount like .45 because of coupons on mtn dew 2 liters. couldn't use that on my mir.

I have some comments to make on this BUT I think maybe we should re-title this thread? The $5/25 coupon we are taking about now has nothing to do with face book and it was a different promo where the $5/25 was printed on the receipts for approx a week before Thursday.

Anyway here is what I have to say about it.

Ok, this is what I figured out with the $5/25 coupon. You can use manufacturers coupons with the $5/25coupon BUT no other Dollar General coupons that will take you below $25 We figured this out when I tried to use a Dollar General specific coupon for $1/2 Hormel Big Bowls. Since my order was exacly $25 that $1 Hormel coupon I had wouldn't take at the register. (not sure if it wouldn't have been taken IF I was over $25 and didn't test that since I was already at $25 and didn't want to go higher than I had to) The manufacturer coupons where NO issue at all. (rememebr they are just another form of payment) I have been couponing long enough to know it will still be a YMMV BUT I can tell you that the register did allow coupons and my total at the end was $2.06 after the $5/25 and multiple $1/1 Gain coupons. Oh and the $25 has to be pretax. For example my order came to $24.80 so I had to grab a 20c ramen noodles to get to $25 BEFORE tax. In my opinion the cashiers at DG shouldn't give you a problem also using manufacturer coupons. I mean they ARE going to get paid for them so what does it matter. Either way if you pay the $20 in $$ or coupons they still come out exactly the same in the end. They would actually get more customers (which equals more business) if they allow this. Coupons are a BIG money maker for the stores and move more product which is the name of the game in the retail business. (or at least it should be!) Also as many of of CVSers and Wagers know the expiration dates on products are fresher when they are moving products through couponers. I hope this helps someone. Last day to use the $5/25 coupon!!!

PS What I think Dollar General means on the coupon statement on $5/25 coupon is you can't use any other Dollar General coupons at the same time. They don't mean manufacturers coupons. (They would be stupid IF they do mean that you can't use manufacters coupons cause it shouldn't matter to them if you do. Same $$ on their end if you do use them) And their registers are set to allow it. BUT the important thing is to make SURE you get to the $25 pre-tax!
