Funny Dollar General Coupon "Rule" So I know we all love coupon "rules" that some cashiers/managers make up at stores. I went today to use some coupons that I knew would make items free or close to it at DG. All of the cashiers at my local store are very nice and in fact the store manager is a relative of my next-door neighbor. Anyway, there is one manager there who hates me and makes no secret about it. I know it's only because I use coupons because I'm always sweet as can be to her and we've never had any sort of an issue.
Anyway, as I'm checking out, the cashier can't get two coupons to scan. They were the Renuzit B2G1F air freshener ones. I had already used one on that order and it scanned fine. I bought 9 total, which would allow me to use 3 coupons. She scanned and scanned and finally had to call the mean manager up there to help me with the last two coupons. The manager first counted everything I had, including coupons. At first she tried to say that all the coupons had deducted from the order until the cashier showed her that they hadn't.
Then she tried to say that I didn't buy the right item. Nice try. The item was exactly the size and item pictured on the coupon.
Her last ditch effort was to tell me that Dollar General's coupon policy limits you to 3 coupons per order. I asked her why I was allowed to use 6 Mighty Dog and 4 Reach toothbrush ones if that was the policy and/or the way the register is programmed. She then backtracked and said it was because I was buying 9 identical coupon items and you can only buy 3 identical items with coupons total (again, still doesn't explain the Mighty Dog and Reach ones). She finally sighed and said that she would override the system because I did buy the correct items but that she would probably get fired. As I was leaving I heard her tell the cashier that she wasn't going to order any more Reach toothbrushes because she was sick of couponers coming in and getting them free. I also heard her tell the cashier that coupons should be limited to one per person because you only get one each in your paper.
Thought some fellow couponers might get a kick out of my frustration today. I personally think she was just angry that I walked out of there with 18 items that I paid $4 total for. What I don't understand about these coupon hawks (as I call them) is that they have access to the same coupons I do yet they begrudge me for taking advantage of the deals offered with coupons!
