Default Funny Dollar General Coupon "Rule"

So I know we all love coupon "rules" that some cashiers/managers make up at stores. I went today to use some coupons that I knew would make items free or close to it at DG. All of the cashiers at my local store are very nice and in fact the store manager is a relative of my next-door neighbor. Anyway, there is one manager there who hates me and makes no secret about it. I know it's only because I use coupons because I'm always sweet as can be to her and we've never had any sort of an issue.

Anyway, as I'm checking out, the cashier can't get two coupons to scan. They were the Renuzit B2G1F air freshener ones. I had already used one on that order and it scanned fine. I bought 9 total, which would allow me to use 3 coupons. She scanned and scanned and finally had to call the mean manager up there to help me with the last two coupons. The manager first counted everything I had, including coupons. At first she tried to say that all the coupons had deducted from the order until the cashier showed her that they hadn't.

Then she tried to say that I didn't buy the right item. Nice try. The item was exactly the size and item pictured on the coupon.

Her last ditch effort was to tell me that Dollar General's coupon policy limits you to 3 coupons per order. I asked her why I was allowed to use 6 Mighty Dog and 4 Reach toothbrush ones if that was the policy and/or the way the register is programmed. She then backtracked and said it was because I was buying 9 identical coupon items and you can only buy 3 identical items with coupons total (again, still doesn't explain the Mighty Dog and Reach ones). She finally sighed and said that she would override the system because I did buy the correct items but that she would probably get fired. As I was leaving I heard her tell the cashier that she wasn't going to order any more Reach toothbrushes because she was sick of couponers coming in and getting them free. I also heard her tell the cashier that coupons should be limited to one per person because you only get one each in your paper.

Thought some fellow couponers might get a kick out of my frustration today. I personally think she was just angry that I walked out of there with 18 items that I paid $4 total for. What I don't understand about these coupon hawks (as I call them) is that they have access to the same coupons I do yet they begrudge me for taking advantage of the deals offered with coupons!

what's sad is i was stalked by a csm at kroger one day because i had coupons laid out in my buggy meanwhile a man is being brought out in handcuffs for shoplifting. think i was treated like the larger criminal for cutting and even remembering to bring coupons to the store! do you have another dollar general store you can go to? most of the ones around here are good so i just avoid the ones that give me issues.

Luckily I do have another DG I can use but I'm definitely mentioning it to my neighbor's sister (the one who is the manager of that store). I know she uses coupons and I don't think she'd like hearing about the way I was treated.

Default Dollar General

I have been employed with Dollar General for six months. I noticed that very few people were using coupons, so I started encouraging them. If I have a coupon they can use, it's theirs. I point out anything that will save them money. Customers love it. We've gone from getting 5-10 coupons a week to around 30 a day. To top it off, our store got an award last week for increased sales. I'm having a blast!

aww thats so cute for the above poster!! your store must be super nice to let you do that also, seems alot of stores have a bug up their butt when it comes to coupons...for the op that really stinks i cant stand when stores act like that...maybe one day they will realize all the people that work for them that are unfriendly to couponers are losing business for that store and get rid of them or train them properly.

plus the store DOES get reimbursed plus $0.08. If I were the manager I would love to get people in with a big ole stack of Q's.

The Dollar General in New Phila, OH only lets you use one of the same coupon per transaction and only 2 per day of the same are allowed. This is why I no longer shop there.

It makes no sense that they would be upset about a person using a coupon to get something free...because yes they do get reimbursed. I had a similiar issue at Wal-mart....really ticked me off. I ended up calling corporate and the store manager and complaining so now...I come through...I have no problems!

lol I always did this when I worked at Gymboree! If I had a markdawn sheet for the next day I would tell all our regular customers if they were buying items from the list. One day a sales associate asked me WHY I did that "isn't the point for us the make MORE money?" Well YES of course it is but when your regular customers spend $1,000's a year in your store, you want them to keep coming back to YOUR store, not someone else's because they know that they'll let them in on the deals! I think this often saved us frustration of dinying price adjustments when they see the price has gone down but they've waited more than the 7 days allowed! I'd often give them 1 of the 1,000 20% off coupons too, because I knew they would be buying MORE if they had a coupon! You could actually SEE the higher sales totals on days we had coupon events! It's a Win/Win for everyone!

I agree. This is why I don't get why they get so upset. I don't know all of the ins and outs of what happens to the cpns once I use them at the store, but some of these cashiers act like the cpn money is coming out of their pockets personally.
