QUESTION Cashier reactions vs. personal reaction?

So I was checking out at Dillon's/Kroger today and a cashier went nuts over my before total/after total. She clearly couldn't get enough and told me time and time again how awesome it is. ($85 down to $3)
It really took me by surprise because it's a norm I hold myself to when I go on "couponing trips." I am no longer surprised by my ending total. I expect it. So when a cashier goes nuts or makes comments of disbelief it makes me to stop to realize their right. It's so totally amazing that manufacturers put out paper money of a different kind for us to use to lower our grocery bills! Thank you to them because otherwise my family could not afford the luxuries we have now that we would not otherwise buy.

Am I the only couponer out there who has had this experience?!

that is awesome. I love it when the cashier gasps at my savings. I also love it when I deliver some stockpile goods to my mom and she gasps at how little I spent.

I dont get reactions too often, most dont really seem to pay that close of attention and are kind of like "whatever." I think its kind of fun to get that reaction but I am also newer to couponing.

Hey ClippingMyBlessings welcome to the forum again (I think), I'm one of your followers (**clue** I told you about the awesome Bic razor deal this week).

I always get comments/high 5s at the store and I always get a grumpy cashier. So, I guess we win some/we're envied by some.

Like you, I expect my total to be less, I get frustrated when my total is not right, then I have to figure out, what happened....now, I am starting to have them ring up the item, then hand them the qs for that item, then let them ring up the others, then hand them the qs. Why? For some reason, I usually (no matter what happens end up with more/less qs on the bill), even when I stand there with my game face on and count.

But, to me it's worth every minute for my family!!!

So many of the cashiers I encounter know me too well to get surprised anymore

But occasionally I'll have a new cashier or someone I'm not familiar with and they do seem shocked (double check the "savings" number on the receipt) and add some positive comment.

It does surprise me when it happens though, because I'm so used to saving high %'s

We get so used to it, that sometimes we forget how much of a minority type customer we are in that respect.

Heck, I'm so used to saving a lot that when I stop to look at the retail prices of items I'm shocked!!! I know my buy prices and don't think "retail" unless I have to for some other reason and when I pay attention to retail it blows me away!

I love when cashiers fave about my savings. It just makes me feel better knowing I'm doing what I love to do well! And I also love to watch non-couponers check out and see how much they are paying for stuff. Sometimes I want to pass out when I see the total they pay.
I had sanity once upon a time I promise . It was just so long agoooo that I can't remember it.

Hey! I can't stand the grumpy ones...usually get them at walmart. My cousin works overnights and she told me, "Everything bad you've heard about Walmart is true. Cashiers are mean." LOL! I found that hilarious. Glad you found me on here! Thanks for followin my blog!!

Oh, watching others ring up a couple hundred $'s at the grocery store and all the while I'm mumbling to myself "I have a coupon for that, oh and that, and that too ..." And they don't hand over a single coupon and I want to scream "Do you have more money than brains?!"
