    QUESTION Price Checking Around Town

So I have spent hours upon hours in Dillons, Walmart, and Aldi this week with a clipboard writing down prices of every product I buy and cross comparing. I am entering all this into a spread sheet and comparing it at cost per unit. I have been an AVID Dillons shopper but am kinda disappointed with Dillons prices. I know this may not go over well on THE Dillons Forum, but I am just so bummed. Maybe everyone else already knew this/does this, but my new plan of action is to only buy the REALLY good deals at Dillons that are worth the trip because they double coupons. What percentage of your grocery shopping would you say you do at Dillons?

I'd say I do about 50% at Dillons and try to hit the good or cheaper deals where ever they might be. Target is my prefered alternate, because I think Walmart is just so high on the products I buy. Aldi is cheaper by far but I only buy produce there. Sam's Club is good for a few things when I can't find a good deal anywhere else. So, I'd say I'm not really loyal. Looking for a good deal to make the ends meet.

I agree. I only buy items at Dillons that I have a coupon for and are on sale, on manager's special or closeout, or are the loss leaders in the ad. It's probably about 50% of my shopping. I also shop at various Walmarts (usually the S. Campbell, Independence Road, and West Bypass stores), Sam's Club and occasionally Price Cutter. Target is too annoying to shop at unless they are having a really good deal on something that I need. Aldi annoys me because the prices shown in the ads aren't always the same price in the store. For example, a few weeks ago they had avacados on sale for $.49 in the ad, but when I went Aldi to buy some they were $.79. Well that was the same price as Walmart that same week and nkowing that would have saved me a trip driving to a rather inconvenient store.

I really only shop Dillons with sales combined with coupons, manager's specials, and closeouts/clearance. Somethings I have to get at Dillons, no matter what-my husband will only drink Dillons brand milk and eat a certain bread that we can only get at Dillons. If there is not a coupon or sale, my only other option is Wal-Mart, which is quite a bit cheaper on items that never seem to have a coupon or go on sale. We have a Sam's Club about an hour away and go there about once every 6 weeks to two months and this helps out too.

I only shop Dillons for the deals combined with q's too. I do my shopping all over though. I mainly buy on sale at Dillons & Price Cutter combined with q's. I shop Aldi sometimes. I usually shop at Food 4 Less every time I make a trip to Dillons. I'm not crazy about Walmart, but still buy certain items there. I can't stand going to Target in Springfield. If there's a great sale, I go to Target in Branson. So much easier to get to & I've never had a problem with q's there like I have in Springfield. We buy a few things at Sam's. I'm thankful I have time to make my rounds to all the stores to get the best deals. Does anyone shop Harter House in Springfield? I've never been there, but want to check it out.

I second that Target in Springfield is useless. Everytime I go their for a sale they are out of stock and cant get a raincheck. They hate couponers. Personally I think the employees take all the good deals.

To get back on track here. I only get the good deals at Dillions and only go when I am going to town anyways. I spend 25% of monthly shopping there.

I buy ~95% of my groceries at Dillons. Dillons is just convenient. I have a Walmart, Hy-Vee, KMart, Target and Ray's Apple Market as well. Walmart and Hy-Vee are out of my way and are absolute madhouses. I really dislike shopping there unless it's first thing in the morning but since I work full time and live 30 minutes out of town those opportunities don't happen very often.

I'd say I do around 30% of my grocery shopping at Dillons. I only do the sales matched with coupons, as well. I usually end up going there at least once a week. I do Aldi and Food4Less at least once a month, and Wal-Mart for certain staples at least twice a month. I generally make a weekly trip to Target and Price Cutter as well for the deals- and a Sam's Club run at least once a month for fruit and milk if no other deals are around. Wow- I really am all over the place!

I buy only the items that are rock bottom priced at Dillons, which includes the aforementioned sales or sales with coupons, cats etc.... I stay away from Walmart when it comes to coupons because its a miserable experience, especially at Ozark which is nearby. The manager wont let me use a $1/1 ANY J&J Baby on a buddy bar which is absolute nonsense (not pictured). I only go there for non coupon, non grocery items. The one single item I will go for is White Cloud. The self check guy who helped us the other day informed me that Walmart will be *stopping this* and he meant multiple coupons (multiple products). He was totally on my side ( odd for Ozark) but said he has heard them threaten this before. Unless they quit taking MFQ altogether I doubt they could pull that one off anyways. I shop at PC a couple times per month for a few items that will be rock bottom prices. I rarely go to Aldi anymore and I cant stand Target - for the same reasons previously mentioned. I go to Branson to pick up free batteries and super awesome deals. I buy loss leaders and coupon deals at Murfins now and then and thats my default store if I run out of anything (rare) or want something special. Murfins used to be far away from me but its now my neighbor. I will pay 20% more there than WM anyday just for the pleasure it is to shop. I dont feel like Im all over the place since these stores are in my path of necessary travel anyway =) I guess I buy 50% at Dillons in the end. I only buy Cheese, Tortillas, salad and Fresh Broccoli at Sams anymore. The rest of their produce is too old =( and most items are way overpriced. I hit Greene County Freight about once a month. If it was in my travels I'd take a peek more often.
