hmm, if they were in the freezer I would have said, it's probably fine, but I'll bump this for you because I'm not sure about the fridge.
I accidentally used 2 expired butter sticks (expired November 2010) to make some peanut butter bars. I just happened to think to myself that I hadn't used butter sticks in a while even though I still had the 2 in a package in my fridge... so I checked the date AFTER making the PB bars. I hadn't noticed anything funny looking or smelling about the butter.
I tasted a small piece and they do have a kinda of odd taste but I think it's mainly because I expected it & was thinking about it so much.
Do you think they are ok to eat? Or No? They are just for DH. He had been wanting me to make them. So it's not like they are for a bake sale or anything.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I just looked it up on a site and it says it is ok for 6-9 months if in the freezer. In the refrigerator up to 1 month and then it has to be thrown away. So for your and your DH safety I would say to please throw away. I don't want anyone to get sick. I am sorry this happened to you.
Please pray for my family.
Please keep Elizabeth in your prayers. She lost her Father on 2/19/2012.

If they had been in the freezer I would say they would be fine. Otherwise I would throw it out.

Thanks for the advise. I tossed them. Wish I had checked the date before using... that was a lot of wasted ingredients. Oh well, lesson learned.
It's so hard to throw stuff away! Especially if you have put all the love in to bake something! So sorry!

Would you drink milk now that had expired in Nov of 2010 that hadn't been in the freezer
I don't necessarily go by exact by dates for milk products and I don't know where I draw the line but I do know that something that expired 9 months or so ago...is definitely on my no no list, for fresh milk products.
butter goes rancid. I've ate rancid food. It didn't make me puke but it sure taste icky and I try not to eat food that has a pretty good likely hood of being rancid.

I'd only toss them if they tasted rancid. Preferably I'd taste the butter before using it so I could tell it was just the butter that tasted off. If it did, I'd toss it. If not, I'd eat them.
