Re: Roll Call for Market Basket shoppers Whether MB prices can be beat: that depends what strategy you take. If you stock up when Shaw's has a get $15 back when you spend $30 in participating products, or similar, you will do much better than MB. I know there are certain products that are unbeatable at MB, like rotisserie chickens, but I'm not going to every darn store every week.
Take, for example, 100 oz Tide. I know that a deal is coming up for Tide at Shaw's starting Friday 1/1/10 through 1/7/10. The price is $9.99, with a regular price of $14.99. The deal is that you can get $10 off your next purchase when $25 or more is spent. Believe it or not, it only takes 2 to get the $10 off coupon, which essentially means you are spending $9.98 for 2, or $4.99 each (almost the same price as I would get Xtra).
MB has the same thing on sale for $9.99; no extra savings. So that means Tide is like 1/2 price versus MB at Shaw's!
Also, Progresso Weight Watchers was on sale 2 weeks ago for $1.39; regular is $2.99. Practically it required 5 (tripled the deal with 14 and got something else) and it practically is like paying $.40 a can after the $5 on your next purchase on a $15 purchase. MB regularly sells this type of soup for $2 a can and generally is not included in their $1 or $1.25 a can Progresso sales.
So that means if you stock up enough on grocery items, Shaw's can be a bargain. I've been doing Trader Joe's plus Shaw's for awhile. My brother was doing all MB and I told him to change his strategy to shopping these deals at Shaw's. Believe it or not, he's reduced his grocery bill. |
