I have a question about a home phone

I need to cut costs any way I can.

I have to have a cell phone for my job and they reimburse me a bit for it a month. But since I have a cell I don't need a home phone EXCEPT to fax paperwork for my job. Is there a free or low cost way to have a line just to fax paperwork?

We use vonage here. $24.99 per YEAR ($2.08 per month). No point in paying all that money for a line you rarely use. We don't even give it out to anyone, it's just for faxes and stuff like that.

Don't mean to be stupid but how does Vonage work? Do I have to buy anything upfront?

I'd like to know also....we use our home phone a lot, but I hate what I pay for it. Do you think it would work ok for someone who still uses their home phone a lot?

I have a Magic Jack to fax documents, if I need to. It costs me $20 per year to keep it active. The reception in my area is great, it is just like a regular landline, I just have to keep the pc on to use it.

I googled Vonage and the cheapest price plan I saw was 14.99 a month?

Magic Jack~ I have a laptop not a desk top would that make it difficult? I only fax 1-2 times a week.

If you have everthing on your home phone but the line then it will only be like $12 a month...no cllaer id,call waiting, or anything just the line to make calls and fax with..

Then if you get foodstamps by some chance you can ask about the program that will allow you to maybe get help paying for the line each month...I saw a wall poster about this it said to ask your local phone co..
