I spoke with a realtor today, a nice one, finally, and she is going to have the financial guy they use(loan guy) contact me tomorrow so we can set up an appointment to find out our pre-approval amount for a house....this is the most nervous I've been about any purchase....buying a house is HUGE, but in the long run it is way better than us being cramped in this tiny apartment. I just hope we can get what we want/need in a house for the price we can afford.
Good luck with the loan pre-approval. And happy house hunting!

Good luck on the house-buying process! It's a buyer's market right now--just ask the people who bought our house TODAY! We took a total butt-kicking, but

    WE'RE DEBT FREE!!! (again)

I feel compelled to add--PLEASE follow Dave's advice on house-buying. That being--20% or more down payment, 15 year mortgage and a payment no bigger than 25% of your take-home pay.

If I have cash I spend it. I use my debit card for everything.

But I'm just cheap most of the time for everything now LOL

Thanks for all of your advice. I do pretty good carrying cash around b/c I'm able to see that my fund is dwindling. I'm always suprised at the end of the month how much we have charged to our credit card and I'm afraid it would be the same with a debit card. But I still plan on getting a debit card for any online purchases. We used the envelope system when we went on vacation last week (gas, food/drink, and miscellaneous) and we came back home with over half of our allotted vacation money. We also desperately needed a new couch (if you sat in the middle of ours you would hit bottom and on the sides your knees were higher than your butt) but then DH's sister bought a new livingroom set (they are up to their ears in debt) and gave us their old set for free and it's still in good condition. It's a relief not to have to search for a new/used couch now and we can pay down some of our debt with our left over vacation money. I can't wait to read Dave Ramsey's book, get a plan in action and start paying down our debt.
