Default dish detergent, sugar, flour, baggies

Every extreme couponer has a weakness.
Mine used to be tp. I was always out of tp and not willing to spend money on it. But Marcal helped me out with that weakness.

I am soon to be in need of:
sugar, flour, dish detergent, ziploc-type bags

The thing is...I always seem to be in need of these items. I keep hoping I will get them for free, and never seem to..and then wait too long until I need it and have to pay for them (of course still using sales and coupons! hehe). :-)

I have seen pictures and read posts of magical couponers here that have 30 pound containers full of sugar and flour.
How much are you paying for these per pound?

I usually buy a bag of sugar or flour when I see it $1.99 a pound. Is that too high, experts?

I also seem to be always out of dish detergent. I have dishwasher detergent coming out of my ears, but dish detergent....hmmm. I see Riteaid has dawn for .50 a bottle....but I went today and boy that was a small bottle for 50 cents. Can I do better?

And of course, I am always low on ziploc type bags. I refuse to spend more than 25 cents a box though. :)

Does anyone see great deals on any of these items this week or anytime in the next few months? And I would appreciate any advice moving forward on my weak spots as well.

Help me keep my super-duper low oop resolution!

I am in NJ/NY and have: CVS, Riteaid, Shoprite, Stop and Shop, Food Basics, Pathmark, A&P, Acme, Target, Walmart, Walgreens, Food Fair, Duane Reade.

TIA!

Well, my deals on sugar came from some home mailers I got for signing up for the Bake sale thing that (Domino?) I think is doing. I will have to check on that though. When I signed up, they sent q's for $2/1 and $1/1.

Dish detergent- I am still stocked up from getting these for free at CVS when I first started couponing nearly two years ago! At the time there was a $1/1 Dawn Hand Renewal in the paper one week and they were included in a sale where all Dawn was $.97. I regularly see good deals on Dawn, in fact I'm getting three free this week at Rite Aid (all Dawn on sale for $.79). If you sign up for the Home Made Simple booklet (I think you can get two per year at your address, but the last time I went to try to get one, it told me I had already gotten my two, but then they went ahead and sent me another!) It has high value q's in it- and a $1/1 Dawn hand Renewal (which is what I am getting this week). The same product will also be on sale for under a dollar at CVS next week.

As for the ziploc bags, I found good deals on those a while back with some blinkies that were out, $1/1 any Hefty.

So for those two, I guess using non-insert coupons is the way I got them free. SO keep an eye out for blinkies/home mailer type q's.

I'm not sure about flour. I don't use flour for a lot of things and it lasts me ages. :)

HTH!

Freds and double the coupons makes dawn, joy and ajax cheap for the regular bottles are just $1 so coupon doubles make them a great buy.

as far as TP your lucky cant find a store here that has the Marcal but I would pay full price for TP before i would do without it....but so far I have been aboleto get pretty good deals on it.

Gold Medal flour is 2/3.00 at WAGs this week. There was a coupon on coupons.com last week for .75/1. Did you happen to print it??

If you have a SAL nearby, they have a printable on their site that makes their 5# bag of flour .89 or .99. They have good quality things, too. I love them! They also have a couple other good Q's for brown sugar, powdered sugar, self-rising flour, butter, etc. If you have one, I recommend you check it out.

shoot! I read your post too late, and missed the sale at WAGs. Is that a good price to stockpile, in everyone's opinion?

I am jealous of the folks that have their stockpile pix up and I see them with baker bins stockpiled with flour and sugar...that is my goal.

So if I want to buy 4 bags of flour (20 pounds) and put it in a bin from a bakery...is $1.50 a bag a good price for stockpiling?

All the items I am asking about in the initial post are for mega stockpiling....not for any emergencies. I have enough of all to last for months...I am looking to get ahead of myself here though and stockpile for a long time.

question....does wags take IP? I didn't know that! My WAGs is so unfriendly with coupons, I never tried!

question....
someone on hcw.com once told me that sugar lasts forever if stored properly.
Does the same apply to flour?

If you post the stores you have in your area, people with the same stores could probably help you better.

I have double/triple coupons in my area, and use the .35 C&H coupons to get sugar very cheap, usually .65 or less for a 4lb bag at either Kroger or Albertsons. Flour I have paid as much as $1.50 per bag, but got some really cheap with the .75 GM flour printable. It's on sale this week at Randall's (Safeway chain) for $1.29 for a 5lb bag, making them .59 each after coupon.

Flour can go bad after a long time. It will go rancid and not taste good when you bake with it. It has a small amount of wheat oil in it and that will spoil. Keep it in the refrigerator, and it will last longer. Also, being in the fridge, it will not get weevils. Stored out in cabinets in the original bag is the worst. Bugs get in it, temperatures affect it.

Sugar can be kept in the fridge, also.

Thinking back, it wasn't but a year or two ago that a 5 lb. bag of flour, WM brand, was only $1.00. A bushel of wheat is now selling for twice what it was back then, which makes flour more expensive.

Getting as close as you can get to that price I'd think would be a great bargain.

While stock piling is a good way to save money if the item is stored incorrectly or for too long it can spoil and your ourt any savings at all. Also you need to include the cost of storage in your cost of the item if your going to stock pile items that need to be either vaccum sealed or kept in fridge (like flour)
