Thinking of getting a Boost Mobile phone

We are thinking of getting Boost mobile phones b/c of some recommendations to my husband. Right now we do not even have text capability....do I need it?? No! But, we are paying $75 a month now for 2 phones with only 700 min to share and the Boost plan says it is $100-$120 (depending on phone) for 2 phones per month for unlimited talk, text, web.

Do any of you have experience with Boost? If so what phone do you have? I am not very phone savvy ....so forgive for my stupidity, but for example what does the Blackberry smartphone do that the others dont?
Do you have good connectivity? And is this a good price?
