Need Advice: Questions about being a reseller on Ebay and Craigslist ..

A friend of mine asked me recently if I would be interested in selling some (MANY) items for her on Ebay or on Craiglist. Her DH died recently and she has over 100K worth of inventory and misc. things that she would like to get rid of.

I have over 10 years experience selling on Ebay. In the past, when I have sold things for friends, I have them pay all the fees and then we split the profit 50/50.

I just don't know what percentage to charge her...

My friend has her own internet business. She has a warehouse where much of the inventory is. She has all the packing/shipping items I would need and UPS, FEDEx and USPS all deliver to her warehouse on a daily basis. I might even has access to her employees to do the packaging and shipping for her.

I am assuming I will have access to all of the above .. we are planning to sit down and discuss everything in the next few weeks ..

so I guess my questions for you, if you are a reseller, or have Ebay experience are:

1. What percentage should I charge her?

2. Should I have a written contract with her? I'm sure the answer is yes to this but is this something that we should do on our own or have a document drawn up?

3. If something is sold on Craigslist instead of Ebay, should the percentage of my take be the same?

If your friend has her own internet business, her own employees and a warehouse why is she having you do it?

I sell on ebay. Earlier this year I decided to list about 30 fishing reels for a friend of my husbands. I charged him 30% of the selling price. I thought that was fair. Wrong........next time.......well there won't be a next time. It was way too much risk to my paypal account, my ebay feedback and my sanity. In addition to costs I incurred for packing materials, paypal fees I also had to deal with non paying bidders and then worry about chargebacks. There was one fishing reel in particular, the buyer insisted it was not in good condition........well how the heck would I know...I took dh's friends word for it. The buyer ended up settiling. I ate that since dh's friend had already received his money.

Based on my personal experience, I think its too much trouble to sell things for someone else on ebay.......but let me know if you wind up doing it and if it works out for you!

Teach your friend how to sell on ebay.Let them get there own ebay account .That way you can help your friend .Not have to worry about your ebay account & feed back getting any negative stuff on it.My ebay feed back is 100% an I don't sell anything for anyone.

She is pretty computer savy .. but with the recent loss of her DH, running a business and 2 young girls she really doesn't have the time.

I would definitely set up a new account .. I would not use my own .. I have over 750+ rating and 10 years on Ebay .. I would also set up a new PP account using her CC information since she will be paying me to sell items.

I am assuming (definitely need to find out) that I will have access to everything in the warehouse including shipping materials etc.

I am hoping that this might lead into an expansion of her business on Ebay .. although her business is VERY successful on its own.. again something I will need to talk to her about.
