Re: Opinions on GE washer/dryer set from Home Depot
I have a GE washer + dryer that were 2 yrs old gently used when I bought them 12 or 13 years ago. I just dumpstered the dryer because the hook-up connections kept on coming loose and became harder and harder to fix, the washer is still going strong. Both were smaller size models [I'm not at home or else I would look up the details for you]. I'm planning for a new front loading w/d after we get our new place set up this summer for better cleaning capacity, but as long as that old washer is still kicking, I will be keeping it to do the doggy laundry with [we have a small kennel]. I've never had issues with either one, other than the hook up part of the dryer [which got damaged during moving].

Re: Opinions on GE washer/dryer set from Home Depot
We'll see how it goes tomorrow. I'll go by the store again and see if the salesman, a guy I went to school with would you believe, will work with me and get the price of the set down below $500.
My current set is a Whirlpool, 17 years old. The washer is still washing, but it has such a small tub compared to what they are now. The dryer has just flat out quit, and I do not like clothes hang dried, I want them run thru a dryer.
Thanks, sh7693 for reminding me about the 10 per cent off. I also have a gift card, don't know how much is on it yet, and the lady at the customer service desk wrote on my paperwork that I would get $25 off my first purchase. So, I'm hoping all this will combine and get the total down to what I can afford.
You want to know what boredom is? Sitting at someone's house waiting for laundry to wash and dry. Aaaarrghh! Then, hauling it home, up the steps and putting it all away.
I can't stand it any longer.

Re: Opinions on GE washer/dryer set from Home Depot

Well, I did it! Took three managers and two registers, but they worked it so I got all the discounts, and the total came in at $485.34, well under my $500 limit.
First of all, the saleslady (my guy wasn't due until later today) said the 10 per cent discount was supposed to apply to each individual appliance over $398. I said I had thought it meant for the total. She said it used to, but they (corporate) keeps changing it. To me, its more fair to the customer to apply such a discount to the total.
Anyhow, she said she would do it, since I had to bring the total in under $500.
She got it approved by a manager back in Appliances. I mentioned the $25 off first purchase, and he approved that one, also. Hey, this is rocking right along.
Get up to the "special" register in Customer Service for those out of the ordinary transactions, and the deal won't go through. We snag another manager, and she explains to him what's going on, and he approves it and puts in his code.
Then, it won't take the $25 off with the 10 percent off together, and yet another manager with another override code has to come over.
But, in the end, after all the codes and using the Christmas gift card, I got it down under $500, delivery next Wednesday.
Everyone was nice, no one got snippy, and NO ONE tried to make me give up a discount. They need to sell merchandise, so they are not putting up a fight.
I do hope this GE will be okay, as it was the only thing in my price range for right now, and I couldn't wait any longer.
It was my birthday present to myself, too.
