Need a basic sewing machine

Help!

I need a good deal on a basic sewing machine. I have never had one and want to start doing small crafts and small repairs.

However, I don't want one that is so cheap that it will give me a headache trying to operate it. I would love to find one under $60 that is easy (read idiot proof) to operate. Think sewing for Dummies...

So far, the Singer quick mend in the BF ad for Target looks good. Any other suggestions?

On Sears website they have one for $54.99 I don't know anything about it though.

Have you checked your local craigslist? They show up on ours quite often, and you'll sometimes get lots of extras thrown in.

FWIW, I had a basic White model for years and it served me well. It was given to me as a gift, but was purchased at Walmart originally. It was not fancy but worked well and was easy to use.

Whatever you buy, make sure you get a manual. If you don't get one, you can often buy a PDF online. It's very handy to have the manual for threading, etc. information, especially if you're a beginner.
