HELP IMMEDIATE opinions - Need a new washing machine

    HELP

    Completely clueless here.
    I mean it!

But my washer of 6 years is leaking and I'm sure needs a part that with labor won't be worthwhile.

So, what do I look for?
Where do I go to find these things?

    Color doesn't matter.
I am not name brand loyal (obviously)
I don't care about bells and whistles.
I just don't want to buy another washing machine for 10 years (or more).

    Cost doesn't matter either.

heeeeeeey, I just noticed a little leaking on our machine too - but I have no idea what it is from.

I know you said immediately, but I know that in just a week and a couple of days, the black friday sales will be going on, and at least sears has some sales going on.

Otherwise, maybe check your menards ad? I've been seeing them with washers and dryers for some decent prices lately.

Dont get a maytag thats all I can tell ya. 2 1/2 years old and had to buy a new to us used washer this past weekend. And before the motor blew we had to change the belt often and it made awful noises while it ran loud run you out of the house noise. The guy who sold us the used one said the type we had ran maytag out of business but I dont know what he exactly meant by that.

Ok, mother of 7 , grandmother of 11 here. I would go Maytag everytime. I have had other brands and they wear out, have problems ect. The Maytags last forever. They may be a little pricey to begin with, but well worth it in the long run. The last washing machine I had was a Roper and it started leaking , what it was leaking was transmission oil, which got all over our clothes , which we didn't notice for awhile. So, be careful

I was posting at the same time you were. Isn't it funny how different people feel about the same product. I wouldn't own anything but a Maytag and you would never own one.

All I can say is I think you get what you pay for.
I have a front-loading Bosch and it gets my clothes amazingly clean.

We had some issues with the machine because of electrical issues with our home (NOT a problem with the machine).
When I was not able to use my machine, I went to the laundromat and did laundry at my aunt's home, and both locations had old-school top loaders.
The one thing I noticed about going back to a top loader, is I honestly felt our clothes did not get as clean as they do in the front-loader.
Also, after 2 weeks, I noticed visible wear/break-down of the clothes that does not happen in the front-load washer.

I know that front-load cycles run longer. For example, a "normal" cycle on my front-loader (and I know my mom's LG washer does the same) will run a full hour for one load of laundry. You can get a load done faster in a top loader. However, again, my opinion in that the clothes don't get as clean and you use more water in the top loader. A longer wash cycle does not bother me.....

I know there are new high-efficiency top-loaders out there, but I think reviews really vary, and I don't know anyone who has one.

If you ever like to soak your clothes in your washer and want a front-loader, you really need to pay attention if the model you are looking at even has that feature. My Bosch does, and my mom's LG does not. My mom did not notice this when she bought her washer, and it is the one thing she dislikes. Otherwise she's been quite happy. Obviously, you can always soak clothes in a top loader.

The other issue of top-loader vs. front is laundry detergent. You must you HE detergent in a front load machine. Over sudsing in a front loader can ruin your machine. When you use a front loader you use so little soap, you DO NOT even want to see suds.
I have had the same box of Costco HE detergent for a year. I got 4 bottles of free HE Tide a CVS last month (?), and I bet I won't have to buy detergent for another year and a half (and I have a family of four).

I love my Bosch. I bet there are folks out there that hate them.

I have recently heard good things about the newer Samsung front-loaders (with "silver care". I also know several folks with LGs, and they all like them. I do know the LG requires a little more monthly care than my washer. For example, you have to clean filter traps and drain a hose regularly.

BTW, my Bosch costs approximately $9/year to run (electricity + water) according to the energy star rating. It's SUPER efficient.

Good Luck. I think shopping for a washer is traumatic and do not envy your search. :-)

My first few washing machines, I didn't care about the bells & wistles......ok, let me stop lying to myself. I was just desperate and needed a washing machine badly.....if I had to get the cheapest one I could, I did.

It sure is nice to have a delicate cycle and short cycle, and different water options on the machine!

    Okay.
This time during the spin cycle I hear a rattling, so I am officially done with this washer.
Which, by the way, is a Kenmore.

    Yep

We paid $$$ for the one we bought not even 3 years ago as soon as the limited warranty was up it started making LOUD screeching horrid noises for the most of the wash.
    The belts broke a lot.
Nothing DH did to it ever made it stop making the noise.
It never fully got the clothes soun out they were always soppy (is that a word?) when wed put them in the dryer. It started leaking and it eventially stopped working all together the motor and something else ( I dont need to know whats wrong with it just go get me another one or fix it lol) both blew up.
I wont buy another maytag again and DH says he will never buy anything from Sears again after the way they treated us when we bought the stupid thing. So, lets hope the freezer I bought from there doesnt blow up so I dont have to hear told ya so
Good luck OP! Im currently using a very small one button no bells no whistles OLD fixer upper. But its what we could afford when ours blew so whatcha gonna do :shrug7: as long as our clothes get cleaned I dont care.
