Re: Looking for a deal/q's on flea medication. DITTO to the pp who advised against getting store-bought. We have seen seizuring animals come in just hours after applying Hartz products in particular.
And before anyone else jumps in here and says, "But I've been using such-and-such for years without any problems," just remember -- that doesn't mean the product is safe OR working. Just means you are damn lucky.
Advantage is the best for fleas. Frontline (which does fleas and ticks) is moderately good for fleas. We are seeing more and more people saying that fleas are getting resistent to Frontline, thus they are switching to Advantage. There is also K9 Advantix (fleas, ticks, biting flies, mosquitos) which can only be used in non-cat households as it is very toxic to cats. Advantage Multi does fleas and heartworms. All those products are all monthly topicals.
I know that at our office right now, if you buy a 6 pack of either Frontline or Advantage, you get a 7th dose free.
I personally also dose my own out. I buy the biggest size of Advantage and dose it out according to the weights of the animals I have at any given time (I do a lot of dog-sitting and fostering in my home). It's considered off-label use to do so, but the products are so safe it's fine. :) I'd be happy to give you those doses if you need them.
If you are looking for a pill, there are two. Comfortis is relatively new to the market, but it is GREAT. I love it! There is also Sentinel, which does fleas and heartworms.
If you give a bit more info on your situation, I can help you better on which product might be best for you. :)
Prices vary from office to office. I HIGHLY DISCOURAGE getting them from any of the online pharmacies. Those products DO NOT come from the manufacturer themselves (call the manufacturers!!!), and thus you have no idea what you are really getting. Call around and get prices from local vet offices. :) |
