A chest and a deep freezer are the same thing.
    There is also upright freezer.
I have a 18 cubic foot upright and it is just the right size.
There are 4 people in the house (use to be 5) 2 adults 1 18 yr. old and 14 year old.

Look at yard sales, second hand stores, appliance shops that sell refurbished freezers, "pennysaver" type papers, etc.

if you have a sears near you, call them and ask where they have their scratch and dent store, as far as i know each area has their own, i have bought my clothes dryer there and my dishwasher. if they order something and they get it off the truck and into someones house and it doesnt fit, it cant be sold as "new" again and it goes to the scratch and dent also, so its not always cosmetic stuff, also if it is missing a piece, they tell you which piece and have it there for you in a separate bag, my dishwasher was missing an $8 tube thingy, so they took $150 off the dishwasher and sold me that tube things separate. The warranty is the same as the store as they were never used. i am in ct, and they also have a hallocks scratch and dent store, so maybe if their is a large chain in your state they will have one also. just know what you want before you go as the staff there isnt as knowledable as the sears store itself.

    hope this helps

I haven't been into the Sears scratch & dent center in quite a few years, but always give any freezers there the smell test. I remember 2 that had quite a bad smell, it was obvious that food had gone bad in them (I was told they were repo'ed). The rest were fine, but I nearly threw up (was preggo) when I opened the one that smelled like rotten fish.

ETA: I just realized that was 18 years ago, so my info is definitely dated!
