Default Carpet shampooer - Advice please

I am looking to buy a carpet shampooer and have no idea what to look for. Any help wou be really appreciated and of course repped.

*Up to $200 - I want a really good one, so if I have to spend more please tell me
*Most important - easy to put together, clean, etc.
*Need a handeld piece for stairs

I have 2 dogs, a cute but sloppy husband and a 16 year old DD that usually has 8 or 10 of her friends here.

Any suggestions on model and/or other criteria I should look for.

    Thanks!!

I have a hoover steamvac and used it today as a matter of fact. I like it I have had it for about a year but have only used it a handful of times. It cleans my carpets just fine....I have 5 cats and 3 boys. I TRY and not let them eat in the family room but they eat and spill in there. I also have a puking cat and someone else told me to get the spot bot. To lug out that big thing for his DAILY puke is a bit much.

The Hoover Steamvac fits your criteria. I was reading today (while I was trying to trouble shoot a problem) that it is supposed to be better than bissell if you use it often. I guess Hoover is big in the UK. Oh and my problem was just that the dirty water chamber wasn't shut tight, totally my doing.

i also have a hoover and my only complaint with it is the clean water tank and the dirty water tanks are too small and you have to stop to refill/empty it a lot. other than that, it works really well and is easy to use (family of 5 plus a dog, 6 cats and lots of kids always in the house!)

I have used the bissell and ones they have already talked about. I don't like the bissell at all. It is real small formula tank. Not worth the hassell to use. I love my hoover steam clean. But I don't buy the formula either. I use tide w/ febreeze. I use my cleaner on rental properties too. So Hope this helps. Check other places I have a flea market that sell them, and I can get a carpet shampooer for about $70. Hope you find one you will like.
