Default How much for these car repairs?

I got an estimate for some car repairs today and I am thinking it's too high, so I was wondering what a reasonable price to pay is. I need:

    -4-wheel alignment done
-front and rear brake pads replaced
    -brake system flush
    -rotors replaced
    -two new tires

Easily close to a $1,000. My hubby has a Lexus and had all four brakes done as well as the rotors replaced and that was $1,100.

My hubby just called me with the bad news on my car. Front brakes, front end alignment, fuel filter, and oil change $800.00 BMW's are so expensive to repair.

What kind of car is it? That makes a bIg difference. What size tires? Where are you taking it-the dealer or an independent shop?

Wheel alignment usually runs in the $130 range. Brake flush $100 or so, maybe.

Since it is only an estimate go some place else and get another one. You'll then know if it is high or not. Do not tell the second place about the first estimate.

Type of car and where you take it makes a huge difference. DH is an auto mechanic and has worked at both dealerships and independant shops. Dealerships are almost always more expensive but not always. And dealerships frequently will send cars out for tires etc but even some independent shops will do that as well. The independant shop DH currently works at does not have an allignment rack so they have to send all allignments out.

You can even call local parts places to see the going rate for the parts needed like the rotors, brake pads etc. That will tell you a little about the price mark up the shop may be doing on parts.

well, the rotor replacement will be a very expensive part of this deal...I got rotors replaced on my 1995 Chevy Caprice about 10 years ago and it was over $500.

I have a 2007 Subaru Impreza 2.5i. I don't remember what size my tires are, I looked it up the other day, but I can't remember now (baby brain, LOL).

They told me the repairs would be around $2000. On the breakdown, they said the tires would be $600, which is crazy since my MIL bought me 2 new tires last year and it only cost $250 including installation, so it makes me think they drastically inflated everything else.

$2000 sounds a little high but I am not terribly familiar w/Subarus. $600 for tires could be about right depending on what brand/size they are. I would think you'd be looking in the neighborhood of $1700 for everything you listed, EVEN figuring the tires at $600. But you may have sensors on your brakes that need to be replaced, which could be an additional charge. I would do like some other posters suggested & get a 2nd opinion. It's always possible, too, that they are purposely overquoting in case something breaks/needs to be replaced that they missed. (This is a fairly common practice to save their butts--it's easier to tell you your final bill is cheaper than to tell you you owe more than what they originally quoted.) Good luck!

I would check around on the tires at least. Once my DH got expensive tires on sale at Kmart for all 4 it was $500. We no longer have that car. We buy our tires from a company here called Midwest Tires. You can buy new and used tires there cheaply.

If you could find someone to do the rotors and breakpads that wouldn't cost too much at all, when bought from like Auto Zone, O Reiley's etc.
