Looking to buy hardwood flooring
I am looking to buy laminate hard-wood flooring.. I am okay with buying online because I will be installing it myself. I want cheap, as cheap as possible - while not going so cheap that I buy something that is cheaply made and needs replacing in a few years... I don't know what to look for in order to determine good quality.... It is only one small room that I am flooring so I would like clearance stuff that you can get really cheap because they don't have alot of it.... Any advice on what websites to buy from or where to get it dirt cheap and what brands to buy... I'd really apprecaite it....

Re: Looking to buy hardwood flooring
Are you looking to buy laminate, engineered or hardwood? What's your clearance (under doors, etc.)
If you're doing actual hardwood, we installed 2.5 houses' worth of Bruce 3/4" hardwood, Dundee 2.25" oak strip. In the first house, we put in the more expensive stuff. In the second and the addition we used a lower grade - it has more variations in the color and mixes white and red oak.
If you're putting down hardwood (which I don't think you're planning on by your post but I'll say it anyway), you can go with tavern grade. It'll have more knots in it - which gives a great look but you can't nail into the knots so be careful.
By all means, get pre-finished, no matter what you do.
If you get engineered wood, which installs like laminate, it can be re-finished (typically once) and lasts a couple decades.
Here's the place near us where we got ours: Wood Floors Plus There are people on here who swear by Lumber Liquidators.
I have no clue on laminate flooring but know many who've had successful DIY installations. Be careful in reading up on certain brands because some are easier than others to install.

What brand did you buy at Sam's club? Have you had any problems with it? How much did you pay per sq. foot?

Re: Looking to buy hardwood flooring
We just bought Laminate Flooring at Menards. We have been checking it out for a while. Laminate is not hardwood. It's a synthentic plastic wood lookalike. I cannot be refinished, and usually has to be replaced every 25-30 years. Big Lots and Sams club sell a limited selection for cheap. Sometimes menards has it for $.97 sq. ft. which is a great price. It's usually an off brand. The common brands for lamanite are Pergo, Shaw and Tarkett. Laminate flooring snaps together for easy install. If you get a better brand from a hardware store you can usually get a replacement pieces if you don't have enough or a board gets warped. I'm sure there are some discount flooring places to get it online, but you may want to see it in person to make sure that is what you want.
Engineered wood can be refinished once and is a little more expensive than laminate. It comes in all different looks of wood. It's also easy to install.
Hardwood needs to be glued down and is hard to install. It's also the most expensive, but it can be refinished many times. It can last forever. There are many different types of hardwood depending on what you are looking for. Teak wood is the hardest wood usually more expensive, but withstands a lot of wear. Bamboo is gaining popularity as a envirementally friendly alternative flooring. Bamboo is a little softer so it gets scratched easily.
Engineered and hardwood flooring cheap I recomend lumber liquidators for the cheapest price. Also check your local hardware and lumber stores. Some places discountinue kinds and clearance it.
