    Default Vacuum Cleaner Advice

My Vacuum cleaner died. There are so many brands and styles to choose from...I don't know which is best. I need onboard tools but other than that I don't know how to choose.

What kind do you have? Do you like it? Bags? Bagless? Where to buy?:hectic1:

    TIA!

We got tired of spending $200 every year or so on a new vacuum, so about 3 years ago, we purchased an Oreck. It was expensive - like $600 BUT SO WORTH IT! Every year they do a free maintenance on it and it should last like 20 years. Whenever we get it back from maintenance, it's like new again.

Like I said, expensive, but so worth it.

my mom has an oreck and it is awesome....
she used to have an electroluxe and it was really great as well, though I'm not sure about their newer models ;)

I have only had dirt devils (currently a 12 amp en vision) and I am not very impressed, but I stick to $50 and under vacuums..... the one I have now is better than the last one I had (dont remember the model)... last dirt devil blew all the dust right back out, this one I just find I have to go over every area 4-5 times to get MOST stuff up... :( and that is even after cleaning all the filters, etc. bought it maybe 4 yrs ago and have already replaced the belt once.
I guess you get what you pay for. Wish I could afford an oreck.... but I don't foresee one in my life for a verrryyyy long time.

I have 2 houses that have the Oreck, I SOOO love the ease of use, ie weight.. but I'm not impressed with it's suction...it won't touch threads on carpeting, I always have to pick those up by hand...sock fuzz, forget it...thankfully neither have pets, I know it wouldn't touch hair.

**editing to update, the Oreck was broken, she had it fixed & it's working great now!

I'm ~eh~ with Dysons because of their attachments, they are not that user friendly..though they are getting better than they were in earlier models.

Hoover Windtunnel, awesome, it's heavy though & I get tired out using it to do a big house. Windtunnel was rated #1 last time I remember on consumers report..though that's been a bit & it may have changed.

Eureka & dirt devil...run far away..bissel, Nope...they need to stick with shampooers.

My personal vacuum is a Sears/Kenmore canister down & a windtunnel up (the windtunnel was purchased used for $7, it just needed a new belt!). I decided on a Kenmore after using my neighbors to spring clean her home 3 yrs in a row...I love it & will buy another if/when it dies!

I recently purchased the Sears Kenmore Progressive bagless vacuum that was rated #1 by Consumer Reports magzaine. The suction is awesome. There is a very long hose (great for doing stairs) and several attachments. It is also beltless. With coupons and other discounts, I got it for under $200. This was money well spent. I would highly recommend this particular vacuum.

I have the grey and yellow dyson and love love love it! My mother in law loved mine so much she traded her Rainbow cleaner for the Dyson Animal (she loves it). I can tell you my son suffers from allergies and I replaced my vacuum when he was a baby crawling around. I bought the dyson and he improved. I vacuumed my floor with my old one , then used the dyson and it picked up a bunch of super fine dirt. It is almost 3 years old now?? Still sucking up the unimaginable. I love that I can vacuum my entire house using one plug, that I can do my stairs without it being a huge task. Few tips if you end up buying one...

    1. when trying to vacuum up things like cheerios and such, turn off the brush so it doesn't fling it all over the place.

    2. don't rinse the tank in super hot water

    3. Look for the deals, I know Target ran a special awhile back where they give you a gift card and makes it a decent price.

    4. Make sure the kids pick up their toys from under the couch before attempting to use the attachment, the dyson has some great suction.

    5. Keep the attachments away from the drapes.

I love the Dyson Animal. My parents have it and we borrow it sometimes.

We have the Kenmore Progressive Upright. It has onboard attachments. It's a nice vaccum that is beltless, so you don't have to worry about broken belts. I like it, but it is heavy, so if you have to take it up and down stairs it's a pain. It's also very powerful and likes to suck up things it's not supposed to even though you think you are far enough away. The one complaint I really have is the bags are expensive, and you go through a lot if you use it regularly.

I have a Kenmore canister. We have stairs and I couldn't live without the Powermate Jr. attachment. I haven't looked lately, but Consumer Reports has typically given Kenmore vacuums very high ratings.
