Need help buying a video game system? Wii? PS3?

We are thinking of getting some sort of game system and we have NO idea what to get? A lot of our friends have the Wii, or some Play Station, I don't know. We all love the Guitar Hero and have played that a few times at different places.

What system is the best?

What games are cheaper?

Have better graphics?

Any other advice?

We have 2 kids, 6 and 5 btw.

My husband is an electronic guru and we have all 3 systems. Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360. I will honestly answer that with age of your children the Wii is your best investment. The other 2 are aimed at a more mature audience with their selection of games. The PS3 has wonderful things about it, built in blue ray player, better graphics etc. But in my opinion cannot compare to the family quality of the Wii.
The price for the Wii system and games are notably cheaper also. We have the guitar hero for Wii and we love it. When your kids are older then maybe you could think about the other systems out there. HTH

I agree with OP...also the Wii will allow you 4 players...you can play games as a family...i would suggest the Wii olympics game...since the real olympics are pretty much over you can prolly even get the game on sale

Get the Wii ... we all love it and have a blast playing it together ..

Not sure on prices .. my only suggestion is if you find it BUY IT NOW .. the stores still can't keep them in stock...

Fact is, the WII, like the other 2 systems, is the same price everywhere. You MAY be able to find a refurbished one at Gamestop if you have one in your area. Getting your games either via Gamestop or similar places is your best way (retail storewise) of getting games, as they offer used games for varying prices. We rarely pay retail.
We have the WII and Xbox 360, both get a lot of good use. My 14 yr old recommends the WII for the younger gamers because it has more games geared to the younger kids.

Another idea for games is Gamefly, if you would rather try them out first. Gamefly works like Netflix in that you pay a monthly fee and rent the games. If the kids like the games enough to make it worth it, you can "keep the game" at a lower cost than it would be for buying a new one.
