1998 toyota corolla 109,000 miles
2001 honda civic 195,000 miles ($4,000 for a new transmission last year)
2002 Toyota Camry's have transmission problems. Something new was used that year in the transmissions for better fuel efficiency and it caused some problems. Older Toyota Camry's are great, but try to avoid 2002. Mine went out on me at 156K, but I have seen some online that went out on them at 76K-85K miles. Do some online reviews on a vehicle's year, make, and model that way you avoid some of the potential problems. Hope this helps!

Glad to see all of the high-mileage Corollas. I just got a 2009, and plan to drive it until it dies.
Our 2002 Nissan Sentra has 130,000 and hasn't had any issues. Preventative maintenance is the key. If you can find someone with a service history for the car, it would be a bonus.

98 Volvo s70
310,000 miles
99 camry
aprox 100,000 miles
my parents have my "old" car-
91 volvo 240 and it has 135000 miles on it.
they both have volvos as well, my dad has a s 70 and my mom has a 850 wagon.
We've had several cars that went well over the 100k mark.
For work, I had a Ford Aerostar van, it has 115k on it when we got it and I put an add'l 145k on it before it died.
Personal vehicle: Subaru Legacy Station wagon, we got it with 36k and it was somewhere 250K when it was traded for our new vehicle a GMC Safari mini van, which I've also put on 100k.
My step dad had a 93 Honda Accord, - my mom's old car, he had 240k on it when he traded it in.
The key is getting a good mechanic, and like Mrs. Pinecone said, a great service history. On the Aerostar, it was a fleet vehicle for a beer distributor and they had every oil change, tire rotation on the service records.
Ditto to the PP on the insurance... Subaru station wagons are not that expensive to insure, but the sedans can be among the highest to insure because they appeal to teenaged boys - at least in our region.
Hello everyone!! I've never posted before...but since I am a coupon fanatic AND I love cars....I couldn't resist.
1) If you can afford it definately go SYNTHETIC oil/trans fluid....seems prohibitive BUT worth every penny.
2) a great NON-dealership mechanic as locally as possible (for convenience) don't be afraid to walk into a NAPA (or like) and ask about someone local.
HERE'S MY LIST (I drive ALOT of hard miles for my job)
(3) Chevy Astro Vans (all went over 300,000 miles with NO major engine OR transmission issues, just everything electrical had its moments)
1998 Jeep Cherokee 265,000, this one still runs great. I've been told by more than one transmission guy that these trans are toyota made (don't call if fact though)
2000 Honda Civic HB - 181,000.....everthing is manual except transmission which I think is only going to make it to 200,000 (I hope it's not $4000 to replace..YIKES!!)
Had a friend that got almost 400,000 out of an older model Volkswagon Gulf TDI (read diesel) and he was VERY laxed about maintaining it.
I know so many of you put in soooo much time on this site, I want to give you MY personnel THANK YOU for all your hard work. You help so many of us balance our budgets and still have money left over to help others where we can!!

We've had good luck with a Toyota Corolla and a couple Ford Tauruses (from the 80's & '91).
We have a newer vehicle now, but those (especially the Corolla) needed few repairs and the repairs were relatively cheap when we kept on top of it.
Wife to 1not updated right now, mama to 3 little girls.
My husband has a 91 Pontiac Firebird that looks and runs great. We have alot of people asking to buy it. It has 150,000 miles approximately. I have a 95 Ford Thunderbird that has around 155,000 miles on it. These cars are very dependable. We hardly had to put any money into them. They aren't that great on gas though. We have to have big cars because there is us and 3 kids, so we won't fit into a small car.
Please pray for my family.
Please keep Elizabeth in your prayers. She lost her Father on 2/19/2012.

We have a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with 254,000 miles on it. Runs and looks great never had any problems except with the AC, the AC seems to need some kind of work every year.
