Is Schnuck's really that bad, or this board just dead?

We are moving back to the STL area and I'm trying to get a handle on my shopping resources. I haven't lived there since I started couponing, so I'm wondering if there are deals to be had or not? I remember that they were pretty expensive.

I'm still a commissary shopper for the time being, but that will eventually run out, so I'd like to learn the local game.

Are there any good places to shop for groceries in the STL/So IL area. We will be somewhere between Belleville and Florissant (not sure yet).

Schnuck's is good to hit on the 10 for $10 sales, I get stuff pretty cheap/free after Qs that way. But most of their regular prices are still too high for me. Although sometimes if you look real hard you can find an unadvertised sale/clearance item for a great price. I found Schick Quattro refills on sale for $5.99 one time.Non advertised. After the $4 Q they were only $1.99! HTH :)

Schnucks used to be my favorite spot to coupon, but the deals seemed to dry out over the summer. I hope they get it together soon.

I still go to the commissary occasionally even though it's an hour away (BTW: if you or dh is going to be reserve, even inactive reserve, you can still use the commissary) but I tend to get just as good if not better deals at ShopNSave on the Thursdays when they have $10/$50 - just remember that the $50 is before coupons, not after and you can often combine with Catalina deals or beer rebates if you're in MO - no beer purchase required. (I'll often go through the line w/ $150 in groceries and split it into 3 transactions - never had a problem with it) So I'll often get $50 worth of groceries for less than $10. Schnucks has the occasional good deal, but I prefer ShopNSave or even Aldi if SNS isn't having a $10/$50 that week.

For me the only good thing about schnucks is that they will round any coupon over .50 up to a dollar. So a .55 would end up being $1 off. No other store around me does that, the best they do is double .50 and under.....Schnucks deals never look that great, but lots of time they have unadvertized deals that are decent.

Not all Scnuck's round up like that unfortunately, none of them around me do(Jefferson County) They only double coupons .40 and under. I wish mine did! You're lucky!!!

Same here for my Schnucks .Kroger is only up to .50 cents and anyhting over is just face value

I love my Logli's ( Schnucks)! We have very few double coupon stores around here in my area and Logli's doubles up to 55 cents everday, no limit. Also, when they have their 10/$10.00 sales I do really good!

I think its hit or miss with what other stores you will have in your area to shop at.


I have a Kroger within blocks or my house along with a Schnucks (logli's) and lately the only deals have been at Kroger for me since both stores double to .55 here. Also my mother and MIL live about an hour from me so when Im out that way I shop the stores they have, and while they don't double out there they do have wonderful cat deals so its hard for me to justify spending money at Schnucks lately.


That being said keep an eye out on all the stores sales ads that are in your area and make a comparision to help you until you get the lay of the land again there. And like others have said Schnucks does seem to have higher prices than some other stores in my area too. But when they have a sale its usually rocks. (like a couple of weeks ago I could get those Ocean Spray on the go packets for .50 a box with the blinkie in front of it)
