I had trouble with them & I don't know if it was the Amex cards or the cashiers.
Wanted to do the deal 2x so I could max out the Spring Fling promo and I had two different x/xx CVS coupons, in different amounts.
First store, put the x/xx coupon on the bottom of my pile so it would be scanned last since so many people have been having trouble with getting ECBs accepted if it was scanned first. Caught it as the cashier scanned it first because she rearranged the coupons.

She voided the x/xx to get the ECBs to scan, but then the x/xx wouldn't scan because either 1) it was already scanned or 2) it went a teeny bit (like $1.xx) into the cost of the GCs.
Second store, the x/xx coupon wouldn't scan properly. Told her not to bother with it because I just didn't want to make a stink over $3. There was ample amount owed for it to have worked w/o going toward the GCs at all (I owed like $4 beyond the cost of the GCs). Maybe it was tax? Bad coupon? It looked legit, but I got it in a potluck trade, so you never know.

Certainly wasn't going to argue with the cashier about it.
mini CVS rant:
BTW, the 2nd store is my regular CVS w/ my regular delightful cashier (RDC) who gave me a hard time this visit because I paid with my debit card. The PIN is quicker. Plus these are GCs--didn't know I could use a credit card to buy them. But, instead of asking for a PIN, the little card screen shows it needs a signature because RDC pushed something on the register that immediately put it through as credit. :sigh: So I do my new scrawl signature that is my first initial & then a squiggle. It matches no signature on record anywhere because I am sick of signing those electronic pads & wasting time doing it right only to have 1/2 of it not be recorded. So now I do a squiggle & just go right to the "enter" key to move things along quickly. Well, for the first time ever since I can remember, she asks to compare to my card to the signature (probably because the GCs are now being purchased by a "credit" card & not with a PIN as I had intended). But, my card's signature thing is totally worn off from overuse because the card's like 4 years old & I use it for
everything & now it reads 'void' in a repeating pattern so not only can she not compare, but it wouldn't have matched anyway & doesn't match my DL. So now I feel suspect because I tried to use a coupon that wouldn't work & I can't provide a signature that matches the card I used.

I get great deals there, have a nice rapport with RDC & her manager, pay about $1 OOP on average (part of my under the radar strategy because $0 is too much of an attention-getter) & now I'm on the radar because I actually paid OOP for something because it was over $5 & I didn't pay cash like usual.

And to top it off, I bought those stupid "Teen" GCs & not the regular ones.

Whew!
