If we did not receive junk mail, the postal rate would increase considerably.

There's a couple different views to take on that...
To me it's kinda like having prostitutes...if we didn't have them there'd be more people on welfare, so it's good we have prostitutes so there's less demand on social services...
First off, if we didn't have junk mail, there would be less mail to deliver, so we'd need less postal people, less gas to carry the mail, less equipment to sort the mail, less electricity to do so, a reduction in everything. That means a reduction in cost.
So following my queer prostitute logic, the junk mail doesn't do anything but burden the system so that it has to grow like some cancer tumor.
Wouldn't it be better for the trees/environment/etc if we paid .50 - .75¢ to mail a letter today for a highly efficient postal system?
What about all the postal people that have bad backs from carrying tons of mail? The medical costs from having to take care of them.
The logic of junk mail supporting our postal system is like your family eating more because then you have to buy more and that saves the economy.
It's a false save for the economy. Like lending too much money without sufficient collateral.

I did not say junk mail is the answer. My point is if people want the junk mail to stop, be prepared to cough up $1 or more to mail your envelope.

Junk mail is static income for the post office; the general public can be tricky.

Yea, I'm ready to pay $1 more.
Neaten up the postal system, make it more efficient.

And hurry up and increase the rate to .50 right now so we don't get these stupid 1 and 2¢ increases that make us all have to buy new stamps.

There's also that other POV people have that the internet harmed the post office, but I don't think it did from my habits. Communication on the computer changed my phone calling.

I agree about the postage increases and stamps.

I am in the antithetical situation. Except for the occasional trade, junk mail, and Dh's free magazines :shrug7:, we hardly receive mail. I made the mistake of donating to a cancer center in New York. Even against my request to desist, they continue to sell my address to third parties.

I wish my mailman would burn my junk mail...

My grocery ads come in my junk mail so bring on the junk mail. Coupons come in junk mail so bring on the junk mail. Junk mail lets me know that the mail man has made his daily run, so I don't keep walking to the mail box so bring on the junk mail.

    from the article:
Rather, it was the inability to meet the demands of a job in a growing part of the county while contending with heart problems and complications from his diabetes
I can't even imagine how much worse his heart problems got just from him having to worry about getting caught. I would think that must have raised his blood pressure considerably.

Junk mail doesn't bother me. I don't get trades in every day and it's nice to have something in my mailbox that isn't bills.

and my early morning logic tells me that each piece of junk mail goes into my recycle tote or shred pile which in turns goes with me when I go dd'ing and get more coupons. If I wasn't going to the recycle bin, I wouldn't have quite so many coupons to use/trade/send overseas.
