    Default Bra lawsuit

ABC News: Vicki's Secret: Formaldehyde in Bras?

If this is true it makes me never want to buy there again. I cannot think of any reason for formaldehyde to be used on bras. :frown:

how about formaldehyde in your bed sheets?

"Most sheets owe their nice, smooth quality to a wrinkle-free formaldehyde finish that adheres to fibers and acts as a sealant. These finishes cannot be washed out and they are attributed to a wide range of harmful effects, from birth defects to cancer."

Yikes! I had a wrinkle-free cotton blouse years ago that never felt quite right. The thing was virtually indestructible and never faded. Now I think I know why.

No, I want to know, because it's often up to me to do something about it. Not knowing why you possibly not feeling well will not make good for neither your mind or your body.

I'm fine without VC bras and OK with wrinkled bed sheets if I'd forget to take it out of dryer right away (hate to iron!).

I believe there's formaldehyde in many products. It's used or was used in part of the process of making fabric.

It looks like Cher takes a daily formaldehyde dip everyday...must be ok then! lol

That's true, knowledge is power to choose not to get this kind of thing, but how much can we really know? I checked my sheets and they are all 100% cotton. I'm sure they are not organic. How can I find out if they were treated in formaldehyde or some other dangerous chemical when the company doesn't have to give that info? I know you can say buy certified organic, but that is not always an easy option. These were gifts. We are dirt poor right now and won't be replacing any linens any time soon. So that is why I agreed with Beth that I wish I did not know some things.

This will probably open a huge can of worms, but why is it not illegal for companies to treat their items in harmful chemicals?

IMO, the most important thing is a balance. Organic products co's would tell you all scary stories about toiletries, foods, clothes and such, trying to make you switch to their products. They said something, conventional co. responded. What's in every side claim? If it's bother me I'd research. No one died yet from using Herbal Essences shampoo or eating zapped salad. AFAIK more damage done from perception then from the actual content or manufacturing process of products. It's up to me, the consumer, to determine if there is any merit in either side claims.

Some bad news we might be better off not knowing, but there is always a good side to anything. You said you do not know if your bed linens are treated with harmful chemicals, but you have kind people who gave you some so you do not have to spend much needed funds. OK, they might not be ecologically clean, but that's "might be". On the other side, by being dirt poor you've protected yourself from buying VS dangerous underwear, tell you DH to cross it out of his gift list..
