Saving money on groceries shopping at stores that are specifically selling out of date goods?
Did anyone catch the ABC news article tonight?
Now, there are some things I can live with past the date....cereal, some canned goods, but as a practice? Heck no!

Yep - the entire store - out of date! Selling Christmas Cap'n Crunch with a June 2007 date which really means it was on store shelves in Nov. 2006!
Like I said, I can manage some things being past the date, and then there's some things I would never consider, but to operate an entire store that way, and people were acting like it was a deal cause he was selling the cereal for $2 a box!

I have a discount grocery store nearby here that has some really good prices on things, and they have a whole section of stuff that is marked WAY WAY down because it is out of date. They also accept (5 like) coupons and give you overage so there's times when I go and actually pick up some of the old old stuff, but never with the intent of eating it. They'll mark Old El Paso taco shells down to .10 and combined with the 1.00/1 coupons that we get here, that's .90 going towards my other stuff. And when I cut out the BTFE on the box, even better.
but yeah, as a whole store selling outdated things, yuck!!!

Seriously, it's not that bad. Before we started using coupons we shopped at an Amish surplus store. Not everything there is out of date. Mostly just dents/scratches, so they can't display them at the regular stores.
Some of it is expired, but of the stuff that is expired I've NEVER had any problems with it. There were some problems with the pasta, but I think that was more of the way it was stored and we learned that fast and knew what to avoid.
Wife to 1not updated right now, mama to 3 little girls.
We used to shop at scratch & dents about 20 years ago. Some stuff was horribly out of date, some stuff had bugs in it, but there were also some really great deals. It was kind of like a treasure hunt.![]()

Many years ago, my grandmother would shop at a Scratch N' Dent store. One time she thought she was getting a good deal on tuna fish. When she opened the can, it smelled soooo bad. On top of the tuna fish there were bones. It wasn't just a few. There were at least a hundred
She opened a few more cans, and they were all the same. Needless to say, she never shopped there again.
