What do you like most & least about your job??

I wish I had a job. When I did have a job the job itself sucked but I did work with a lot of really nice people, many of whom I am still in contact with. But they live all over so I don't get to see them often. There is one woman who lives near me but she can be super annoying at times. I know it's not her fault. She has a lot of medical problems and one (or maybe more) of the meds she takes make her very dingy and make her speak and think very slowly. I did go to lunch with her once but it really tried my patience to get through the lunch.

What I miss most now is contact with people. Not just my coworkers but the customers too. I worked in retail. Yes, some customers could be a pain. But I'm a real people person.

Now I mostly only see people at my daughter's dance studio. They are really nice people but I just can't relate to most of them because they are wealthy and we are not. They talk about the shows they've seen, the places they've gone on vacation and the designer jeans they've bought. Also at my daughter's age, most of those girls are on the competition team. This is something my daughter really wanted to do. I think we could have afforded it a couple of years ago but she didn't make the team. She did go to the conventions last year but it was very expensive, especially when we got a hotel room. This year there was just no way we could afford it. My husband got a new car that we really can't afford. And expenses aside she couldn't have tried out anyway or been on the team due to her injuries at the end of last season.

I wish I could go back to work again but I highly doubt there is anything I could do for any length of time. My disability makes it hard for me to sit, stand or walk for any length of time. Mainly I am supposed to be in bed with my feet elevated above my heart to take the strain off of my leg veins. And that gets super boring.

Working also gave me a sense of purpose. Something you don't really have when you are stuck at home most of the time.

I've only been working at my job two weeks, so maybe my opinions will change in the future, lol.

Being appreciated
Flexibility
Small office, no dealing with lots of customers
Ability to travel

Dislikes:
Pay is low, livable, but low
Pay is especially low considering the volume of work I have to do
Everyone speaks Persian (Farsi) but I can't

I love that I get to work with dogs. That really just could not be better for me. I love dogs to my soul.
Since I own my business, I love the flexibility of setting my hours and pace.
I love that my business is established enough and successful enough that I can cherry-pick clients. I used to have to take anything that came through the door, good, bad, and ugly. Life is so much easier with committed owners and consequently well behaved dogs.
I get to name my own price and decide how much my time is worth.
I love most of my clients. Most of the people I deal with are very nice people who are easy to deal with.
I get along well with my co-workers. I work alone and am totally responsible for my own business, but I rent space within another animal related business and share some common areas with others. Right now, they have a pretty good crew. There have been some doozies over the years.

The downside-
Since I work alone and am solely responsible, it is sometimes overwhelming when work is coming at me from all directions and I have no help. Phone ringing, client walks in, friend shows up out of nowhere wanting to chat, dog on the table freaking out over the whole ruckus, etc.
Some people suck. This includes people who are unreasonably demanding (buh-bye) and people who neglect their animals.
Name dropping has become a huge peeve of mine. I have my client numbers programmed into my phone. All other numbers are screened. My voicemail states that I am not taking new clients. I swear that 9 out of 10 people will go on to tell me how important they are in the community. "I'm Fancy McGotrocks and I am THE Head Honcho of SomeplaceReallyImportant and..." Yeah, I don't care. My voicemail says no new clients, not no new clients unless you're really important. Just because they think they're important and they expect to be moved to the front of the line past all those insignificant blue collar types doesn't mean I do. Happens all.the.time. Get over yourselves, people!

Generally, though, I love my job and it fits me perfectly. I've experienced a bit of wanderlust in past occupations and ultimately moved on out of boredom or frustration, but I've stuck with this for 13 years and have no plans to leave any time soon.

Currently I work PT at my family's business.

Like:
Its very flexible. I can pick the days I want to work and if I need to come in late or leave early due to the kids its no problem.

I like not having to deal with a ton of customers.

I feel good knowing I am contributing to my kids college funds and other expenses. I put most of what I make aside as savings.

I am able to be home when my kids get off the bus.

Don't like:
Sometimes there is drama working with family

As a SAHM on disability...

My perks are:
a)time to care for myself
b)time to care for family
c)managing the house (money/food/shopping/couponing kinda stuff)
d)time with DH when he is awake

None of these I had working full time in customer service

The downside:
a)gets real lonely sometimes wandering the house while DH sleeps (am thinking about volunteering at CAHS, humane society)
b)having to be a taxi for eldest (she can NOT drive, not safe)
c)having a shadow 24/7 with eldest (she is so dependent and needy)
d)I really don't have MY own time, everything is on family

Then again, I would not trade this for anything. I am learning how to be a real housewife and mother (at least my idea of what of those are)

Like: That I get to work w/my BF & that I'm the one peeps come to when they need something done correctly.

Dislike: That it increasingly feels like it's a boys club.

Like: The actual work load is not very stressful. I enjoy most of the people I work with. We get free parking downtown, but I can also take one bus directly to work to/from my house (I can also park my car here securely and take the bus to the airport for only the amount it takes to take the bus). The set schedule is also nice as are the benefits. I've worked retail before where it is like pulling teeth trying to ask off for a certain time- but that is entirely not the case here. The turnover is extremely low- most people have been here 10-20+ years.

Dislike: One coworker's attitude (too shifty- and hard not to notice since I have to meet with them a few times a day). People taking more breaks than they should when I need to get ahold of them. The break room is often being utilized for circuit training or meetings.

I'm a preschool administrator. I do everything for the actual business side, from bookkeeping, records, and payroll to HR and managing employees.

I love the fact that my kids have come to work with me since they were newborns. Time off is flexible, and I enjoy the solitude of the office work when I am really in a groove and getting things done. I have a really great staff of teachers and I really enjoy hearing a parent tell me how much their child loves school or how hard a teacher is working with their family.

I hate when I am really in a groove and getting things done and the interruptions throw me under the bus. I have had to learn through trial and error how to become a "people person" - it does not come naturally to me. Sometimes I have to smile big and nod while inside I'm imagining my hands around the person's neck - KWIM??

The micro nitpickers make me the craziest. We have a mom and dad who find fault in EVERYTHING no matter how hard the teacher tries. The cook has washed, dried, and sanitized the child's sippy cups daily...but the parent accused the teacher of never giving the child fluids because the cups were "too clean and dry". This is the first time their child has been with ANYONE other than them, and it takes all I can some days not to throttle such clients. I'm doing better though :).

Love the community, knowing that we are doing something to help people financially. Love chatting with folks, learning their stories or just reading the forums, even if I don't get a chance to post as much as I would like to. Love that my job is flexible and that if I need to run to the kids school mid day or a friend calls me wanting to meet for coffee I can. Love learning something new, and I do each and every single day.

Dislike when our server crashes or is acting wonky. Long hours, 16+ hours a day most days. Spam. The "interesting" customer service inquiries we get sometimes from people thinking we are a company offering a coupon/sweepstakes/rebate etc (although sometimes that is just funny). And to be honest the occasional crabby member.
