Finding a parent

I have been looking for my father who I have never meet. I was born near Philly Pa. I have been looking since I was about 16. So a few months ago I was playing around on facebook and put his name in and there he was looked just the the picture I have of him taken before I was born. so i have been thinking about messaging him. Well since I saw him I have lost my aunt and grandma so tonight I messaged him.Now i just sit and wait to see if he messages me back. If he does I have no clue what to say next. My mother has always told me that it just was not the right thing for them to be together. He was not a bad husband it just did not work out. They never keep in touch and she never asked for anything. So my question to you all is what do I say next?

Wow, I can't even imagine your nerves right now. If he knows about you he may have expected this to occur someday and if he didn't want to be found I don't think he'd put himself on FB. Maybe he wanted you to look him up.

Easier said than done but if it were me I would try not to spend much time thinking of what to say (or what he will say). Most likely it won't play out like anything you were able to imagine anyway.

Whatever happens I think you deserve a lot of credit for taking the risk. It takes guts to put yourself out there like that especially knowing he could reject you.

When my DH met his Father he invited us (met him at 21) over for thanksgiving dinner..and we just got to know him. You end up just talking about school, work, hobbies...the family you don't know..ect.
