I would take it day by day. See what he has to say and go from there. If you are nervous, just tell him you are nervous and that may help break the ice. I wouldn't worry that much, I'm sure you will find the words.

I hesitated to post because my views are admittedly colored by personal baggage. But then whose aren't?

Just take it as it comes and expect nothing. I understand wanting contact, but just bear in mind that regardless of biology he doesn't know you. Also, consider that even if you guys hit it off and establish contact, he has history with your mother and that may (I think probably) eventually come spilling out and you may end up in an awkward position. Honestly? I understand as much as anyone can understand the curiosity of wanting to know family you've never known, but in my not so humble opinion, I think it eventually ends up in disappointment more often than not. Just expect nothing and then if that's what you get, no big deal. Anything else is gravy. Good luck.

You have made the first step, it may not be soon that he replies, he may have mixed feelings about being in contact with you. But I do know that I respect that you took that step so young. My grandmother wanted the chance to know her siblings and birth parents all her life. I found the siblings AFTER she passed away. If she had hunted sooner, it is possible that she would have had time to know them. Good luck! Hang in there, it may be a while before he answers, then one day you'll get a surprise email.
