Can you put a cold pack in his lunch so you can use a small storage container, or is that not a possibility?
Okay, so my title is pretty crummy. Here's the situation, DS has to take a medication every single time he eats. And this medication has to be sprinkled onto a spoon of applesauce. It is pretty easy at home but on the go it is a pain. You can't pre-sprinkle the medication. It has to be done right before it is ingested. So, does anyone have any suggestions. I need ideas on where to get tiny, tiny portions of applesauce and then how long I have afterwards before the applesauce is no good from not being refrigerated. I hope I am explaining it right.

do you have a way to refrigerate it...like a little insulated cooler?
I would say maybe buy some plastic spoons and wrap a scoop with saran wrap??
Or you can also buy little tiny containers, I think they are called dip/dressing containers. They have snap on lids, just like tupperware....but again, you would need to keep it in a cooler.
If no access to keeping it refrigerated, the only thing I can think would be to buy those single serve cups and toss the leftovers....since those are sealed and don't need refrigeration.
I would take the tiniest containers I could find and freeze the applesauce in them. Then by the time he needs it, it will have thawed. Just keep a few of them in the freezer all the time so you can grab them whenever he's going to eat elsewhere.
Does it have to be applesauce? I was thinking one of those Go gurts (yogurt in a tube) might work too.

This idea is pretty good but how would you keep it from sweating??
It can not be in dairy. He can't have dairy but the it would also curdle with the medicine. It does not have to applesauce. I think sweet potatoes are okay too, but that wouldn't make things easier. When I have asked the pharmacist and the doctor they have both just said applesauce or food very very similar.
Could you freeze applesauce in an ice cube tray and take out cubes as needed? Not sure what to put it in though while thawing - ziploc baggie or small container? Also, would the go go squeeze applesauce work Or even baby food version in same type of container. I believe they have ones that squeeze out on a spoon. Check the baby food section at Target. I know he isn't a baby but the flavors look yummy to me. Plum Organics has a spoon. These would be easy to carry and resealable. I am not sure how long it can be out not refridgerated but might work for you. Google or check on amazon for what I am talking about. There is also a Peter Rabbit Organics that uses the same packaging.
I don't know how old your son is, so forgive me for asking these questions. Is this something you'll be carrying around for him, or is it something he'd be taking with him to school? I'm asking, because my first thought was oral medication syringes. You could fill them with the applesauce, and just squirt it out on the spoon. Just not sure what the staff at a school would think of a kid carrying around syringes...oral or not! They come in 10 ml (2 tsp) size, and even have a cap to close them. Here's a link to several: http://www.nextag.com/10ml-oral-syringe/stores-html
Get the squeeze kind. We buy GoGo Squeeze but there are others.
