She is at a family friendly studio. They do have a competition team and sometimes they will wear costumes with the belly showing. But... They have a very good seamstress and she would never put such a costume on a girl who couldn't pull it off. Often in such dances there will be costumes made of the same fabric but several different styles. She actually made this tap costume. My daughter is one of the taller ones. The tall ones wore this outfit and the shorter girls wore a black leotard with a skirt made of the same fabrics but the same pink plaid design on it. I think (but can't say for sure) that the girls in the pants were of a more advanced skill level. At least that's how it appeared from the way they choreographed the dance.
We did go to two conventions last year and some some of the competition. I felt bad for some of the girls from some of the other studios who did have to wear the very skimpy costumes. They did not have the build for it. They did not look good and they looked very uncomfortable.
They do wear what they call booty shorts at my daughter's studio but the seamstress makes them. They have special pieces of fabric that sit down around the legs so that they don't ride up. And the trend of late is to have a very high waist to them. So the entire belly is not showing if worn with a crop top or dance bra. Only a few inches of skin is showing.
Ugh Julie - all that time she spent and the money you spent and she had to miss the recital??? That's awful.
My 3 girls were in dance for years too - I don't know how many recitals we were in between the 3 of them; most of the time they were in 2 numbers so it added up FAST. Some of the other girls would be in 5 or 6 numbers.
I agree it is a very tasteful costume - the place where my girls went the older girls sometimes had costumes that I thought were WAY too skimpy and this was 15 years or so ago.
Your daughter is precious.
