    HOT Time Warner Cable

OK well my cable bill went from $120/month to $191 per month. They said it was because my promotional services ended. I called to cancel my services because I am NOT paying $200 per month for cable. They asked if I would consider staying a customer if they could bring my bill down. I said "sure". They then offered me 5 DOLLARS OFF of my bill. I asked if this was the best they could do and they said yes. This was the RETENTION DEPARTMENT!! I thought those people had the power to do whatever it takes to keep you? I wasn't being unreasonable, I just wanted the bill back the way it was. $120 a month is still a lot of money!!! Surely this isn't hurting their bottom line to put my bill back to what it was. They were HORRIBLE!!!! Soooooooooo I cancelled!!! And THEY DON"T CARE!!!!!!!!!!!!! ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Jeeze! That's unreal! Ours recently went up from the 1 year (of 2) promo period from ~$130 to ~$170. When the 2nd year expires, it'll go up to something like that $190. We've been looking to figure out our needs and wants when it comes to cable/phone/internet. After talking to someone at TWC about possibly taking away the home phone (which we don't use and I'd be glad to get rid of it to have our cells the the only phones)- I was told it would only save us about $7 a month since we wouldn't have a bundle anymore.

I keep bugging smaller cable companies to service our area (and it is an urban area, too!)- however all we have as far as options go for a similar package would be AT&T. Truly stinks.

This is exactly why we have Dish Network. We pay $65.71/month (this is after our promotional period) and have all the channels we would want. We live in Northwest PA, which has quite the inclement weather for a lot of the year. We have had maybe 3 times in 2 years where we have had "complete signal loss" due to weather. To me, this is worth the annoyance because our bill is so low.

Unfortunately, you have to be very vigilant when you sign up for anything with a "promotional period" because there is no guarantee that it will stay that way no matter how much you ask.

We just went through this with Comcast. DH called and didn't get the answer he wanted, so he waited a few hours and called back opening with the line, "My service went up in price, so I'm looking to cancel." They renewed our rate for the next 12 months with no commitment or contract.

Ya this is why are do netflix...oh my heck..I cannot believe the prices of cable at this point!!!!!

We haven't had cable since my son got sick...5 years ago. I think we were probably paying about $40 bucks at the time. I cannot imagine paying $191 are they smoking weed or something?

That's more then my car payment. If I had $191 to fart around with every month..I'd go get me another car...not get cable

I feel pretty lucky at this point we are on a price guarantee with TWC for 2 years $99 a month. My previous bundled option couldn't offer me anything better. Until I finally cancelled once I canceled and new service was hooked up they were ready to bend over backwards to get us back. I told them it was too late. The thing I like with TWC is there is no contract. I can assure you when they start pulling that crap that my bill is going to be almost $200 I will pull the plug on them too. I don't watch enough t.v to give a hoot but my internet I would miss. Right now we get phone, internet and cable all for $87 taxes and all. I am really happy this is after I left a company I was paying $120 a month with and the company I ditched was willing to get us back and offered to give me service for the price I have now with TWC. But they wantd me to sign a 2 yr contract with them.

Yep - TWC is terrible. "retention" is a joke. We switched to AT&T. The grass is not any greener on this side either. (After being told I would be reimbursed for the $100 router, I never was). When I called and inquired I was told that I had to be a cable and internet user and I was only internet.

I talked to the manager, gave her the exact name of TWO employees who said I would get my money back. I told her I would happily send the router back - as I had switched to them to save the headache of working with Time Warner and I might as well of stayed with Time Warner. She sent me my money. Though I'm still not entirely convinced they are going to be any better long term.

There really is no good option for high speed internet anywhere!

Holy cow! How many channels do you get for that?

I would be fine with basic cable or really no TV at all. I didn't have a TV when I got my first apartment. I only got one then because people complained when they came to my house and couldn't watch TV. And then they complained because it was black and white. I was fine with that too because we never had a color one when I was growing up.

However my daughter watches the Disney channel once in a while and I don't think that is on basic cable. Or maybe it's not the channel that's not on there. There is one she watches that's not on there. I checked. And my husband insisted that we have HBO even though he doesn't live here right now. My daughter and I never watch that either.

I think we pay around $130 a month unless he watches Pay Per View. Which he loves to do. Gah!

I remember when TV was free. We didn't get a lot of channels and we didn't necessarily get good reception but then we didn't know any better.

My beef now is that I have close to 1,000 channels (including music) and yet there is quite often nothing good on to watch.

We have Charter-it's highway robbery. I quit paying the bill after DH insisted we have mega blow your hair off your head internet service. I've never seen the bill and never care too either. Yes we have separate checking accounts and both pay different bills.
I had sanity once upon a time I promise . It was just so long agoooo that I can't remember it.

Oh my LOL,(not that i am laughing) i just posted about this in th HUTC forum about a month ago.
My bill went up to $181 a month for phone, interent and tv. They too told me that I was in a promo period...i think that is just their coverup for higher rates. They only offered me $6 savings. Only untill i called to really cancel a few days later after researching alternative possibilities did they offer me to go down to $130 a month.

I declined what i use now is:
Voice pulse- $22 a month for phone. I wanted magic jack but couldnt keep my number.
Netflix- We use the streaming and he dvd at home for $15.98 a month
Basic TW cable- $12 a month for about 30 channels. Wanted my news :)
I stuck with TW internet. for about $55 a month. Still high priced I know.
So now I get everything for about $105 a month. I might not have all the channels I had, but hey we are still happy.

I did not want to do any satellite tv. I hate the fact that you need a contract. I want to be able to cancle my service if I feel like I can't pay my bills.
