HELP I need Ebay advice, My buyer wants a discount!

I sold an item under the category New with tags. The definition per ebay says "new in box and/or with tags". Mine was new in box, but did not have a tag.

She got the item and is asking why there is no tag. She is interpreting the ebay definition to mean IF the item had a tag, it would be attached.

Anyway, she sent a long msg saying she was disappointed. I have 100% feedback and don't want to get a neg. She asked if she could return the item for a refund.

If I do a refund, I would be out the shipping on my end, $2.50. Do I have to pay for her shipping also?

Plus, then I'm stuck with the item. I don't really want her to file "item not as described" on me.

She also asked for a discount. I asked her how much she wanted and she did not reply.

3 days later she says she has family trouble and this is not on her radar now. She said she would leave it up to me on what to do.

So, if I send her some money back, she can still leave a neg since she did not "agree" on anything, right?

    Ahh, what to do??

How did you put it in the body of your auction? Did you state new in box, no tag or did you just state new in box?

Try calling Ebay and see what they say. It never hurts to see what they say.

Is it an item that you can sell again? If so ask her to send the item back (at her expense) and refund her amount (after you received it back)

I have given a discount in the past, but that was only with her agreement. I would just send her a note back and state to her, that once all of her family issues are resolved to contact you again so you can both come to an agreement.

Per Ebay rules, if the item you are selling is "new In box", that's all it needs to be. If you didn't state "NWT" or "New With Tags" you did nothing against the rules. If it was important for her to have tags on the item, she should have asked. I would politely leave her a message via Ebay saying what the pp said about getting back to you when she has time to deal with this further. You are under no obligation to give her a discount, no refund for shipping and I wouldn't pay to have the item shipped back. If she wants to take it up with Ebay, they will tell her the same thing. She can leave you a negative no matter what you do whether she agrees or not. Personally, If you refund her then you need to tell her to send it back and once you receive it back you will refund her. You need to refund the cost of the item plus the shipping cost you paid to send it to her. You do not have to give her money to send it back to you. Ebay does not require you to pay for her return shipping cost. If she opens a case against you they will require her o send it back with delivery confirmation and once the delivery confirmation shows you have the item back they will tell you to refund the the amount if the transaction. Until you get it back they will advise you not to refund it.

Go to the eBay community area and go to their message board called seller central for further advice. Tell them your story and the posters their will help you. They are not eBay employees. They are just sellers who have experience to help you know the best thing to do. They can really help you.

in the title I said New in box, when you click on the "condition" I clicked on "new with tags" since the description per ebay says for this..."in original box and/or with tags"

I'm thinking I will just refund her and have her mail it back. I will offer to pay the $2.50 shipping on her end, just to persuade her not to leave a neg.

So, what do i do on ebay's website to tell them I'm allowing a refund? Also, what to do on pp website?

i understand not to refund the money till i actually get the item, thanks for all your advice.

    What item was this?

If I purchase clothing on ebay, and its advertised as "new" then I expect it to have tags on it, not just be in a box.

Not saying I agree with it, but the way I read it-it's either new in the box with the tags, or just with the tags. Since you did the bolded, I think she'll probably have more of a leg to stand on if she takes it to a claim. You could do a couple of things:

1-offer to refund her shipping as the discount
2-have her send it back (she'll have to pay the return shipping herself), if you go this route, do not refund her until you receive it back.
3-hope she forgets & not do anything

Even if you offer to pay the return shipping hoping she won't give you a negative, she could still do it.

Hi, really appreciate all the advice, it was not clothing. What do I tell ebay and pp in order to make this happen?

Go to paypal, view the transaction. About 1/2 down the page there's a link to click, says Issue refund. Click on it, you can issue a full or partial refund.

The bad thing is no matter what you do she can still give you a negative. There is a thing called "square trade" that does mediation if you do get a negative that you feel is undeserved. It will cost you though.
