My kids are 32 and 33. I was 20 when I had my first. (I'm 53) I was raised in a household where my parents didn't spank us. Honestly, I can't remember ever being spanked! I do remember my little sister being spanked ONE time, for following a door-to-door salesman around the neighborhood.

I did not spank my kids. It was a point of many (loud) discussions between myself and my ex-husband. He was raised in a house where spanking was a daily occurance. He thought that kids should be spanked for just about anything. I refused to do it! I just didn't see the point in it. I thought that explaining what they did wrong, and telling them not to do it, made more sense. I couldn't understand how he thought that saying, "Dont' hit your sister"...while he was smacking a child on his butt made any sense!

Were you spanked as a child? Did this influence your choice? I was only spanked twice and I still remember the day vividly. I chose to never spank my kids.

If yes why?/If not why not? I have swatted DD1's bum to get her attention. She's nearly 4.

If you do spank, what offenses are "spankable"? More attention getting if she's not listening.

Were you spanked as a child? Did this influence your choice? I don't remember ever being spanked. Maybe I was. I won't use it as punishment because I don't think it teaches anything except that violence "solves" the problem.

I don't spank my kids at all!
My hubby and me will put kids in bed early for night if bad. We usually do 10 min early to bed for every dumb or bad thing they do. My daughter and son hates when they have to go bed early. I only remember being hit couple times as a kid. My kids our 4 and 7 and are great kids and I feel you can use words and not hit.

Do you or did you ever spank your kids? If yes why?/If not why not? I only spanked my oldest son once. He was 4, and kept biting his infant brother (really hard). I tried time-outs, talking, etc. It didn't work and I finally spanked him. He never did it again, but if I had to do it over again, I would not spank again.
