My mom wants one of those too - for reading - I would like to know more about them, what their pros and cons are, how much they cost, and what others recommend.
My DD wants a Nook,Nook Color,Kindle for Christmas. WE are going cheap this christmas well very few things. If i can get one of them that would be her one gift. She is 14 and has named all three of them.yes she does know that she will only be getting one but she know money is tight this year. My question for all of you is.
1. What one is the best?
2. What do they do?
3. Are they good to have at that age?
I do know you can download book on them but is that all. She loves to read.
Thanks for the help

I love my friends kindle. And she doesnt go anywhere without it. I have another friend who has the nook and she is seriously thinking about buying a kindle. The kindle is much easier to use. Clarity is better (imo). I have used both and I prefer the kindle overall.
The nook is better if a friend of hers has a nook and then they can share the book. The kindle you cannot do that with. The kindle is lighter in weight and battery life seems longer. Nook seems to drain fast.

I guess the first question is, what will she _primarily_ use it for?
If primarily for reading, go for a nook simple touch or the basic kindle. Both now allow you do download library books. Both have black and white screens and long battery life, and lower price points. You can access the internet via a browser, but IME it's slow and clunky. (that's not what I bought it for anyway). You do NOT need the 3g version if it's just for books--I have the non-3g version and it's plenty fast IMO.
If she is interested in a "tablet," check out the nook color or kindle fire (their color e-reader). Both can download apps, get e mail, surf the web, plus download books. Because of their lit screens, they have shorter battery life and you can't read them in sunlight.
FWIW, I have a nook black and white and love it. There are great blogs to read and find free/cheap ebooks, plus the library ebooks is awesome too.

I think we are going to go with the nook color cause she does like to check emails and if she miss anything that is posted on facebook her life is coming to a end.(you know how teens are)Thank everyone

Iihave a b/w nook and I really like it, except that the selection of books available is limited when compared to Kindle. I have a Kindle for PC app running and use it to download books from amazon that B&N don't offer.
