I can't believe this happened in my hometown!! Please help me pray for these kiddos!!

I am so upset over what has happened in my hometown. The entire article is here, but basically there were 4 adults arrested for child abuse. They had been keeping a 3 and 5 year old locked in an animal kennel in there home!! There were also an 8 month old and 8 year old in the home, found in unsafe and unsanitary conditions. I swear, you have to apply for hunting permits, drivers licenses, even a friggin library card, but any selfish monster can be a "parent" (term used extremely loosely!!).


Most of all I am so sad for those kids. They need all the prayers they can get. No matter what your beliefs are, please send them prayers or positive thoughts. They will need all of them they can get as they heal from emotional and physical wounds. I know the world is not always fair, but for a small town in the middle of Nebraska, where I lived the majority of my life - this shouldn't happen anywhere, but it makes is so much more personal!!

I'm in Minden, NE...I heard this and about died! I don't know what people are coming to. I want to sweep in and rescue these kids....poor babies! I wish they would put them into pens that size....but they go to jail and they get royal treatment...tv, 3 square meals and all utilities paid. If they would make the PAY for the things they do I think less people would be willing to treat others this way. I hope that the parents get what they deserve!

I just read that and was wondering if my brother had heard. He is the school superintendent for Conestoga schools in Murray but used to be in Arthur, which isn't too far from North Platte.

The whole thing made me sick. I just can't comprehend people sometimes.

Someone should lock them in those very same cages for a few days before they put them in a bigger one called jail for jail is to good for them..

Its so sad to see what people do to kids these day just because they are bigger. Poor babies..I feel so bad for them and it makes me want to cry

No kidding. Too bad the county just spent millions of dollars building a new jail, so they are in a "state of the art" facility. Huge step up for them.

The thing that makes me the most mad is that Nebraska's system is so screwed up. The focus is on "family reunification," so when it is all said and done, if they even have the slightest interest in getting the kids back, they probably will. It happens every day here. Biological parents have more rights and are given more chances than most people would believe. I sincerely hope I'm wrong, and that they are never allowed near those children again, but its not set up that way. Our state's child welfare laws are badly in need of updating, and the best interest of the child should be the focus!!

Here if you go to jail, you'll get a bill for it. If you do not pay the bill, you can not legally leave the state. You also can not get things you might otherwise qualify for. Like low income housing. I do not know all of the particulars. I just know the story of a friend's ex husband who is now deceased. He went to jail for what sounded like a somewhat convoluted story but it involved buying a trailer. He was found to be owing money on the trailer but there were extenuating circumstances. The owner of the trailer had died and the son is the one who sued him. Long story short he was left homeless once he got out of jail but she was unable to get any services for him because of what he owed for his jail bill. And she wasn't about to pay it. She wound up having him live in her back yard against her wishes until he passed away. He was an alcoholic with a lot of health problems. There is more to the story but that doesn't really matter. I just know from it that one does have to pay for their stay in jail.

Always sad to hear stories like this. I saw a TV show about true stories of similar things. The kids usually are unable to have any sort of normal life because if they do not learn certain things by a certain age, they are unlikely to be able to learn them later in life.

I saw this on my news last night.They only said there was two kids tho..they made it sound like its was because they were so poor or something..that was how it all started by showing the trailer and say how poor the area was that they live in and then tells about the kids..........I dont think that being poor should have a thing to do with how you treat yours kids..Just makes me sick. I hope they never get the kids back and I hope they have to stay in jail for years but I bet they dont...I jsut dont see how anyone with any kind of normanl brain could treat a child this way...oh they said that they had them in the cages because they were trying to climb out the windows..as if!
