I don't have any suggestions on the attorney part.

taxes while in the midst of a divorce can be complicated. personally, something to consider is if you file married jointly, the check will come in both your names. both will have to sign and then figure a way to cash it. if this is an issue you do not care to deal with, file separately and get your refund check yourself.

the best options is to discuss it with an accountant. not the guy at H&R block but a small time accounting firm that does not charge out the butt in your area. they exist but you have to check around with friends to find them. head of household is an option. as far as claiming him, well it is easier if this is something that is agreed upon so their is no arguement. consider what will be best for both of you if you are able to get along.

remember you still have a child together.

stick to your guns, keep your head up and try not to consider any of the negative issues until they come up. love your child and be civil to your soon to be ex-dh. lean on friends and family for support. and come here to complain if you like! it is obvious that there are plenty of people here that will either give you great advice or do a great job of taking your mind of what is going on at home.
