I want to get my daughters a used canoe for Christmas - as their "share" gift.

One just finished a 2-month course in canoeing at college - the other 2 have only had a week-long summer canoe class several years ago.

Just wondering what type (aluminum, fiberglass, etc.) is best for beginners or wanting recommendations/suggestions/guidelines from someone experienced. They're not going out on whitewater but of course I want them as safe as possible.
